I had a 72 wagoneer through my 20's and loved it, I always drooled over this color combo when they came out, but by the time I could afford a new one they stopped making them:thumbsdown, so it turned into one those "some day" things, well that day is today:D, it's actually in great condition, other than blown transfer case, the guy bought a new one through it in the back and never installed it:rolleyes, so right after Desert Storm I am building one for Me for a change.:D

So I had a little personnel time,
NP229 transfer case with 4wh hi differential and 4wh low locked installed
Dana 44 front with air locker installed
AMC 20 rear with Auburn gear locker installed
All 4 wheels can now be locked together, True 4 wheel drive:thumbsup

it didn't disturb even one little pebble up my back yard hill :), my posi 2wd f150 can't make it 5 feet up this hill
inside is cleaning up nice and so are the rims.

repaint, new wood siding, some good tires and hop up the 360 yet to go.

Cool project. Ditch those long front shackles and you will get your road manners back. I bet that thing is a hand full on the highway. Lots of great info on the http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f57/ :thumbsup

oh yea they went right away, got the death wobbles before it got to the end of the block:eek
replaced them with stock shackles and redid the spring packs with 4" add a leafs, it drives so nice now:D

me too but I ain't liking the price much almost $800 for the kit, ouch this hurts when it's my own dollars ;)

Wow, that much? Ya that would hurt. It'll be worth it in the end though.

I wonder if you can't find some wood grain contact paper that's might be plastic / somewhat weather proof? I bet 50-100 bucks would get you plenty of material to practice install and get it looking pretty close ?

Just found this thread. Any updates? I love the Wagoneer. Parents bought one new in 1985, it was our second longest owned vehicle. Excellent off road capabilities and could take a beating. They bought it to tow our Boston Whaler and for skiing. More comfortable then a truck. I've looked for one off and on the last few years. I'll get one day

update soon, been using as daily driver over the summer (killer A/C) and it just got cool enough to work outside

rebuilt the transfercase and made it part time (locked it up)

buying parts every week, almost have everything now, found entire emblem kit on craigs list last week for $10 a side :champagne:
waiting on new dana 44's to find their way from salt lake (trade out for house plans)
new 4" lift springs in hand as well as shocks, etc.
727 rebuild kit ready to go
wood trim kit in hand (whew that was expensive)
got to buy the door and window rubber here soon

and as soon as the house plans slow down a bit, I'll do it all at once

Very true on the ac's if still using R12 but with the vents under the dash don't your knees get cold? :D
We still have are 89 that we had since the mid 90's. The best thing we did was replacing the anemic 360 with a 401.
I have a few left over parts from a 75 that gave up it's 401. Let me know what your in need of and I will see if I have anything.

woodgrained the moldings myself and cleared the crap out of them, I also went back and cleared over the wood grain decals before installing the moldings

I know its an old thread. Here in the Pacific Northwest and BC in particular. Snow skiing is hugely popular. I started in kindergarten, so 1977. My parents always have had a Wagoneer for skiing. We only switched after Jeep stopped making them. Net when me and my two brothers got our drivers license. We mostly used the Jeep in winter. It was basically a spare vehicle. Besides skiing. Here forestry is still the largest industry. So a crap ton of logging roads, etc. that you can drive on. Off road was huge here and it still is. Our last Wagoneer was an 1983. My brother despite having a lifted Toyota 4X4 in 1986 when he got his license. Often took the Jeep off road and drove it like he stole it........... He also let his friends without 4X4's of their own use it. Second my house and neighborhood growing up is on private roads, so even at 13/14, I could drive around the hood without a license. I had to take our garbage up to the main road for pick up. I played rally driver doing so.................... And then when I got my license in 1988. Also went 4X4 ing and drove it like I stole it.. It was the only vehicle we didn't break off road.... stuck yes, but never beyond a tire change break down wise. My brother even killed his Toyota. Since it was 4X4ing that killed it. He couldn't claim it on his insurance.... He traded it in 1991 for two 1970's era Toyota corolla's that barely ran at a Japanese import auto wreckers. That's how trashed his new in 1986 Toyota truck was abused.......

I love the Wagoneer's. I've been looking off and on for years for a nice one as a winter vehicle.
