I saw this today in my inbox(screenshot of article) and found it rather telling where folks' thoughts are at. Yahoo Sports had asked to get emails about viewing or not viewing nfl football and their reasons why after stats showed between 10-20% decline over last year.
Thoughts/Feelings?
I personally haven't watched any nfl in ~ 3 years.

Fuck the NFL!

NFL MBL NBA could absolutely drop off the face of the earth and I wouldn't shed a tear, lose a wink of sleep or even notice.

And I think it's pretty comical that this next up and coming generation (malenials, etc) couldn't care less about professional sports.

Die hard Bronco's fan here....... and I forgot they were even playing on Monday night. Years ago I'd be all over that. I ended up switching to the game for a few minutes, then decided to go to bed. Just not into it anymore.......

I have been thinking about this allot in the last week, I love football and baseball. And at the beginning it didn't bother me too much with how baseball handled it. Whether i agree with it or not they do have a right to speak there minds.

But it has gotten out of control IMO. I started to watch Hard Knocks on HMO and it was all about BLM Social Injustice movement. I tuned in to watch about football not politics. Kinda the same thing when going to the lake/river, I go the lake/river to unwind and have fun, not to see politics,

I'm so sick of it I barely watched an hour of football this past weekend. I have watched the Dodgers but not as much as I used to but they seemed to have toned down the politics. At least when I watched.

Then when those two Sheriff's got shot in Compton that was the last straw. How can someone or an organization support a movement that codons killing police. I can't.

I also kept thinking about what @LowRiver2 was saying when we were going back and forth in the dodgers thread. I also think about my neighbor who I consider a friend and who is LEO.

I just cant do it anymore. It made me sick to my stomach.

I've been saying it to the guys at work.

Athletes, actors/actresses, musicians...... are no different than Sparkles the stripper from down at the local strip club, they are entertainment no more no less.

I am torn, I have a 9yo that absolutely loves Nascar and Football (every other sport he couldnt care less about)....so he's used to sitting down with dad to watch the race, or when his team is playing...trying to explain to a 9yo on why we arent doing that now is hard to do...we didnt watch a few races, but tuned back in now that they playoffs started, and i have to say, they toned the bs down a huge deal....with football just starting, we havent watched a game yet, i may tune in later in the season to see if it gets toned down as well...

I'd like to watch the Steelers and the NFL but I refuse to support multi-millionaires and billionaires as they lecture me about racism, police brutality and how bad this country is.

I will not watch. But I read about Alejandro Villanueva, former Army Ranger, who covered up the name of the person's name on his helmet replacing it with a deceased military hero who gave his life trying to save his fellow soldiers, and how he's being criticized for his actions.

This used to be the land of the free and the home of the brave now it's the land of the corrupt and the home of the Marxists. This will not end well

Sounds like a perfect time to find another great hobby you and your son can enjoy together.

I'd bet they are actually down 50% - 75%. Every person I know has quit watching & we were all huge football fans (were is key word now). I don't think they'll survive without television ratings & empty stadiums. Good riddance.

The Yahoo football pick'ems that I'm in is full again. But yes the games are down for viewers. Their TV deal is still worth some big $$$$.

ESPN’s first outing of the 2020 National Football League featuring the New York Giants hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers attracted an average of 10.76 million viewers on Monday night the network announced, down 17.2% from last year’s first Monday night game.

Last NFL game I watched was in 2017 in person. I have not watched an MLB game this year, which sucks as a Padres fan because they are actually doing well. I was a season ticket holder for both leagues, and now I refuse to watch either on TV. I have too many friends still wearing the badge to support these leagues that support BLM. I know some hardcore football fans that have quit as well, which took a lot to get some of them to say fuck it.

If they hate America that much why don’t they just stop playing or not show up? Oh wait they wouldn’t get paid. Why don’t they take their talent elsewhere and play in a country that social justice is more equal....oh wait they can’t. Well I can’t support something that isn’t right and this isn’t right. Haven’t cancelled Padres season tickets yet just because baseball doesn’t seem as bad as NBA and NFL but no longer a Chargers season ticket holder mainly because they left San Diego but even if they didn’t I would cancel and I have never liked the NBAs attitude and this makes it that much worse.

The NFL and NBA allowed themselves to get involved in politics because they let this happen. They should have said we aren’t a political organization and you have to stand for the national anthem while your in America. Otherwise work on changing the laws that allow it to be played in America...start there. If you don’t stand you can’t play, but you can protest your beliefs by not playing.

My daughter's only 3 and I had not thought of that.

Some of the best memories I have with my dad is watching the dodgers.

I am more of a College Football fan but because of Newsom's Physical Distancing Guidelines the Pac-12 is pretty much shut down (unless things change).

I am suprised it was that high. Well, it seems all the "Talkers" who claim would never ever watch NFL ever again were just that "Talkers" and gave in.

ESPN is about to take another big hit. First they sent Golic senior packing, he was one of the last reasons I even tuned into ESPN. Also ESPN is part of the woke deal and they are all in on BLM. I've already heard that Fox sports talk radio has gained a large portion of listeners.

I understand the Baltimore Ravens stood for the Black “National Anthem” and took a knee for the Star Spangled Banner.

Not interested in this woke shit

The plan to make Dodgers pay fullO/T to LAPD is moving along. I hope they don’t use us at all.
My kids will never go to a MLB or NFL or NBA fame. They know those organizations support killing their Dad.
The franchises will take about 20 years to die, but rest assured my peers and I are doing all we can to make those three pastimes not even on the radar of life for our kids.
Clay shooting , martial arts, archery, ninja warrior.
Plenty of athletic pastimes to spend my kids time with that dont involve hating my profession.

Football ratings down 17-25% in first week with Tom Brady Playing Drew Brees. There will be big ratings drops and massive losses for the NFL this season and next. The billionaire owners will be fine. The millionaire players are going to have issues for 5 years plus.

fuck pro sports, they all went woke, and ya know what, I really dont give a shit about their political views before, during or after the game. And with regard to that fuck face basketball player who got a fucking Hummer to drive in high school even though his mom was poor is the biggest two faced clapped out bitch ever. If he cant realize how COLOR BLIND the US is, well then, he can take his stupid looking chin strap over to China where they work all day for a buck in order to make his shitty ass Nikes.

My youngest, who is a dedicated soccer player, and quite the level headed conservative, took up surfing a couple of months ago to pass the time while covid stole their season. We spent this evening at the beach, because his soccer training was canceled due to bad air quality. Absolutely no desire to watch any pro sports in our household now.

Really sad these fuckwads found a way to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

Vikings fan since I was about 5 and Twins fan since high school. I only watch mma and don't miss the hours of stress and disappointment of watching the other sports. I have so much more time on my hands now it's refreshing. I don't even read the articles anymore.

I have disappointed that some one like Dick Butkas has Not made a Statement. I guess everyone is too Chicken Shit PC to say anything UNTIL today. Butkas finally let it "RIP". I won't go into all of it, but basically that the Players should be ashamed to disgrace the Flag, Country,Veterans,Fans and The Team. No holds Barred = Get Out Of My Country. He is what a Man's Man is. Played the Game for the love of "IT".

The Comissioner and The Owners are too blame for not grabbing this Bull by the Balls and squashed it the Second kapernick pulled that stunt. Should have stopped the National Anthem had Security or Someone Escort his Sorry Ass out of the Stadium and off the Property. Then continue and deal with ANY talk back as it happens. The Fans would have had Respect for that I feel.

I am Sad, as I did enjoy NFL and for sure College Football the BLM and everything they stand for and represent have ruined so much and the Grunts on the street making these "Board Members" Filthy Rich are Too stupid to realize it and now it has nothing to do with BLM and everything to do with destroying what the rest of us Love.

Kids and I were big Angels fans. We are done now even though arte is a trump guy. Bummer, we have some family history with the sport, but we will never support disprect of the flag. TV is rarely ever on at all. All liberal supported bulshit.

Desert. River. Hot rods. Turning wrenches. Beers.
Ok the last one is just for me.

Haven’t watched one second of NFL this so called season.
And I never missed a game with Sunday ticket for many many years.
Canceled the day after Brees got fucked and have not flinched at all.

Saw an NBA/ BLM ad today on TV and almost vomited.
Fucking disgusting.
Nope, I’m done, and done for real.

It took a lot, but they made it easy.

I have friend who is a 55+ lady, loves playing soccer. I don't know how good she is/was and that doesn't matter, it's something she does that makes her happy. I play in orchestras and big bands. Some times I'm there to be background noise, sometimes to show how much money the brides family has, so then I (begrudgingly) entertain. When I'm playing music I want to play it's to share and communicate. When I'm playing Beethovens 9th it's not "Beethoven with my slightly anarchist libertarian twist", I'm trying to recreate the feeling that Beethoven wanted expressed.

People in the LA Philharmonic make around $100K a year. Imagine if pro sports where capped at $100K...people that really wanted to play would be there regardless.

Sports are important and should be encouraged. Professional sport suck the joy out of it and monetize everything to death.

Find a local short track when it opens back up. Appreciate your time with the son.

I am in agreement with all the sentiments here. Me and my neighbors have permanently boycotted these sports also after being long time hardcore fans with our preferred teams. I hope they truly feel the financial impact somehow but not sure it will affect them that much unfortunately. May take a decade of low audiences to finally cause some dramatic changes in their approach but I wont give them a second look.

Used to be a 49er fan. That stopped several years ago when all this joke started. My opinion on the NBA hasn't changed, it wasn't good to start though. Nascar was hit or miss and that has now ended.

My guess is that Nascar is the one that is going to feel the pinch right away. Once that really hits home, the others will pop their heads up and notice.

This came up on my youtube feed yesterday. Pretty interesting.

The RDP social justice warriors can claim this is no big deal. However, these percentage declines will result in slow death to these sports leagues. Consequences......Liberalism at its finest

Used to dedicate my entire weekend to watching football, now I only watch the cardinals. I can only stand being lectured so many times.

I was expecting record ratings for a few different reasons 1. People have been desperate for sports after COVID shut shit down 2. There are ~1million people who would usually be in the stands who would definitely be watching on TV and 3. They changed the way they count ratings and are now better at counting people watching at parties and bars.

I have seen 2 different plausible explanations for the decline, the obvious one that has been discussed here is that people are tired of the wokeness. Another interesting one that I heard is that, during COVID, people have picked up new hobbies to fill the void that was left in their life by sports and now they are happy with their new hobbies and don't need sports anymore.

I believe it’s both.
I will say this, the BLM ad I saw truly bothered me. LaBron and company glorifying criminals ad nauseam with BLM emblazoned on their jerseys, and all over the court and screen.
How the fuck any American can tune in for one second baffles me.
I’m 59 in a couple weeks. My first trip to a Browns game was in 1963 when I was 2.
Suffice it to say that I was NEVER a fair weather fan.
But this shit is the end of it all for me.
I cancelled Sunday ticket, removed all of my NFL apps including my espn app.

Over the next year we will see how this all works out for them. These players think the owners pay them out of pocket. I’m not sure they understand how revenue works?
But it probably doesn’t matter a lot to them as they pontificate on injustice while sitting in their castles.
