While I read about water shortages, we're having a big Monsoon season here in Mesa/Maricopa County. We're getting pounded again right now - high winds - they're reporting 60-80 MPH expected and lots of lightning, thunder and plenty of rain.

Whatever trees haven't come down yet in the recent days storms will likely fall tonight if the predicted winds are anywhere near accurate.

Last week on Thursday or Friday Falcon Field here in Mesa got 2.52" of rain in the 1 day.

Yeah. I’m at Val Vista and Adobe and had my best shade tree come down Sunday night. Total bummer. Luckily my truck was not damaged. The rain has been great.

You live in the Salt River Watershed not the Colorado. The Salt River Reservoir system is at 68% full and yes, those monsoon rains will help improve your water storage situation. But at the of the day, even the Salt River chain of lakes primarily depend on Snow pack results up in the White mountains during the winter months...

Here is the carnage from my house in Scottsdale. It has been a crazy monsoon season. We have most 7 trees!

The irony of trees in Arizona. You want them for the shade, but if you don't aggressively prune them in the summer they tear themselves apart during the monsoon...

LOL PSA. My buddy is a tree broker in town and always harps about a couple things.

Palo Verdes and Mesquite‘s natural growth is like a shrub and they will get top heavy when trying to make them into un-natural canopy shade trees.

The other big one is not relocating the irrigation lines from the base as the tree grows. Trees need to be irrigated out at least as far as the widest branches or you end up with a giant tree and a tiny root ball - timber !

Sorry about the tree, I have been cruising that neighborhood wanting to move there and have always ogled your garage.
It’s a great neighborhood. Lots of kids that grew up here are now buying in the area, or moving in to parents homes?!?!
Just had plans drawn up for the winter project of putting two single car doors under the front balcony, so that part of the garage is accessible from the front and it will be a true 5 car. Stop by if you ever see it open.

Yeah, thats exactly what I was thinking. Phoenix area hasn't had shit compared to what we have had down here. It seems like every other day at a minimum for the past 2 weeks it has poured for at least a portion of the day. This morning I was thinking we lived in some weird Pacific Northwest state based on the temperature and the rain. lol!

Where does it all go, to Mexico? Or are there places to store it for Tuscon?

All the run-off flows northwest through Casa Grande. But, I believe most of it just get absorbed into the various aquafers before it actually meets up with the Gila River.

If it actually ever could get farther down the Gila River it would end up in Painted Rocks Reservoir. I don't think that Painted Rocks has had any water in it since maybe the floods of 1993....

After Painted Rocks it joins up with the Colorado in Yuma/Imperial Reservoir area... Or we flood Mexicali Mexico with it like in 1983.

After they’re established you don’t want to water them at all so the roots go deep.

Yep . people over water their trees and the roots never get deep enough to anchor themselves in for heavy wind . You see downed trees all over the city . But go out in the desert and you almost never see a tree that uprooted from the wind

It's rained 2½" here since 5 AM. We received 1½" yesterday.

In 2015, a drought going on four years was broken when Texas received over 10" of rain in six weeks. Lake Lavon was at 17% of capacity, and Lake Travis was 70' low when the rains began.

Since then, rainfall amounts in North Texas have been well above normal, and the lakes have been at full pool.

I'm writing this in hope the drought conditions in western states ends soon. I know when we had those dry years, it was miserable watching the lakes drain down below 20% of capacity.

Been watching these pop up and go north all day, its getting more widespread as the day goes on. You valley inmates are having a hell of a monsoon year. My neighbor in Cave Creek works in Rio Verde, he said they have 11" so far this summer there.

About 5 hours straight of thunder lightning and rain all night up here at Lake Powell and I barely slept… it’s heading the right direction right up through Grand Junction CO.
