With all the talk about non-commercial Class A I wanted to write about my journey.
It started 3 weeks ago when I first tried to renew my license and add this endorsement. I stood in line for over 2 hours with all my paperwork. Once the doors opened at 8am we were all told that CA system was down. Great!!
So here I am back at the DMV standing in the cold hoping the systems works. I proceed inside and tell them I want my Real ID Class C, buy a separate ID (for backup), add a non commercial Class A endorsement.
It seems like everyone who works in the Hawthorne DMV doesn't know or have never heard of a non commercial class A.
The first lady almost submitted my request for a commercial class A, but I reminded her I'm not for hire. She had a million questions for I will be using this license for. With the tests all on the computer now my biggest concern was taking the wrong class A test.
Luckily, when I got to the computer they had the non commercial class a test and the class c.
When I finished my test I went to the next set of people and they said you need to take the air brake test. I told them I want the non commercial license A to tow my trailer with a gvwr of 15k and I'm not for hire.
All in all it wasn't to bad, just need to stick to your guns and reference the recreational handbook and repeatedly tell them your not for hire.
Now I need to set an appointment for my pre inspection and on the road tests.
Need to find somebody to accompany me when I go to the commercial DMV office.
