Couple of pics from the show. Lots of complaints about the light crowd but Jr. and I loved it without the heavy traffic. Lots to look at this year besides 32's but this one really caught my eye. Even ran into a couple of super cool inmates!!!

I went with my pops on Saturday. Show is a shell of what it used to be, but still a great way to spend Father’s Day.

Old man was a builder. Probably the first year I didnt go in 30+ years. Building a traditional rod is just out of reach for the average joe anymore, hence the low turnout.

Kind of like home ownership in ca.

Billy Gibbons even commented on the cost of building a simple traditional rod. Takes $150k these days for a simple car.

Great choice in pics, BTW. I love a traditional car. Real steel is drying up, you wouldnt catch me in a glass car.

Agree. Kids are into video games and ricers now. I grew up building plastics when i wasnt in the drag boat pits or traveling the show car circuit.

A real bummer how the value of the car are down .
Have to build them for the love of the car and not think about the money you will lose .

Word on the street was the LA Roadster Club Guys sold the rights to the show to the guy who puts on the GNRS and he moved the dates to Fri/Sat instead of the traditional Sunday show. We didnt mind, got the car thing done on Saturday and the Fathers Day stuff on Sunday... win win I say.

$150k is a glam rod going for an AMBR or guys with wallets and no skill. I built this 2 years ago for right at $40k and won a few awards and best of shows. it can be done to a high level if you want to put in the work.

I disagree. Building an A or T on your budget is possible with a store of parts an materials on hand. Try doing that with a Duece or 33-34. My 32 was $25k shipped to CA, paint materials (I painted it in our booth) were over $5k, add in things like windows, trim, wood and all the other crap a 90 year old body needs and I’m at your budget before we even start talking about a rolling chassis or drivetrain.

I can agree that a 33/34 3 window changes things. My buddy is wrapping up a 34 3 window now, went pretty traditional with it and he'll be at about 75-80k....but still no where near $150k. $150k is a guy walking in to a shop and writing a check. I've built several cars over the last handful of years, when you do a lot of your own work and aren't shopping out of catalogs, you don't need to spend that kind of money. and not because we have a surplus of spare parts on hand, but careful planning, shopping the swap meets and various sources and refurb'ing good original pieces, you can do alot if you want to put in the sweat and blood. But I also understand thats not what everyone is into, some guys are just fine enjoying the end result and thats cool too. if there wasn't those guys, I'd have no one to sell all my cars too lol

if anyone is interested, it was in Street Rodder Mag as well so there are more pics.

That was a pretty funny day for sure! Thanks for the compliments. Too bad it just sits in a showroom now in Singapore and doesn't get driven.
