I know we have discussed this topic which I did not think would occur in my lifetime but I see it looming in the future. Much like Russia and Yugoslavia separated into different regions and countries. I say let the radical left have their socialist utopias. Give then California, new York, Illinois, Oregon, etc... let them all go live in paradise please. This would be a far better future for our kids to live in morally right constitution embracing cities and states.

We would effectively lose an entire ocean, isolate 2 of our most militarily strategic States (AK and HI) and by extension create a third border inland from coastal waters.
That border would not be just us and them for very long. That left utopia would be IMMEDIATELY occupied by all manner of enemies. You think we have problems at our southern border?

You're not reimagining well enough. We could do it with 2 forms of government. The socialist states would have their own governance and tax base and economy as would the GOP states. We could still have a unified military presence. If you live in a socialist state you live under their totalitarian rule. If you live in a GOP state then you are part of the republic living under constitutional governance. There could be mutual trade agreements. Interstate commerce, but separate governments. North and South Korea comes to mind but a more modern version.
