Some fucktard set a bunch of fires up and down 395 yesterday. Got called out at about 7PM. Was on structure protection all night. Released this morning about 9AM. 7500 acres. One home lost and several outbuildings. No injuries reported.

Took a bunch of photos with my phone but they came out shitty. Anyone have a recommendations for a decent point and shoot type camera that I could carry easily in wild land / structure gear? I thought about sticking a GoPro to the top of my helmet but don't know how long they will continuously record or if it will take stills or only video.

"EVIL". That is so sickening to see fire everywhere and knowing someone did it on purpose. Damn, all the Lives changed for ever. I always say like in Tornado Country, things can be rebuilt BUT!! it's the Huge "OLD TREES" you or your children will never see them back there again. 👎

👎 Didn’t take any closer pics. As for camera, the new phones are pretty badass. If you are due for an upgrade that’s the direction I would go. Other than that, I would get a reasonable cannon DSLR. They take great pictures and are effectively point and shoot now.

For light weight, and water proof, go the Olympus TG6 maybe.

Could it be something as simple as a trailer dragging a chain? And leaving a trail of sparks? Or are these real arson fires?

Where were you flying?

I don't want to upgrade my phone so I'll check out those two you mentioned. Thanks.

No. these were arson. They think the same guy that was setting them up in Truckee Meadows area.

Fire is up to 18,000 acres now with 0% containment. 395 should hopefully be open by the weekend but better check before heading out. You can always go over Monitor Pass to Markleeville and highway 88 to bypass.

Thank you. My uncle lives in Gardnerville and we are coming up to visit and do some camping on the way up the 395.

We are visiting my brother just north of Reno. Was going to go home today using 395 south. Now we will either use 80 to 5 south or wait for 395 to be opened.

Spent all last weekend on that end of HWY 4. Not good at all.

I have had a Nikon cool pix for a few years now. It takes great pictures, is pocket size, waterproof and drop resistant. The wife has a Cannon 5D and there is a place in our house for both plus cell phones. The nice thing on the cool pix is you can take it anywhere including snorkeling and such. The durability and size puts it ahead of everything else on many trips.

You can go south on 395 to just north of Minden/Gardnerville and pick up highway 88 then left on highway 89 at Woodfords. Take that over Monitor pass and it will dump you out on 395 just a bit south of the state line. As a bonus, it is a beautiful drive.

Or you can take 50 east in Carson City to 95A south at Silver Spings which turns into 208 in Yerington to Smith Valley (where I am) then highway 338 which turns into 182 at the CA line to Bridgeport and pick up 395 again. Just be careful at the 208/338 intersection. It is easy to miss and watch for on coming cars.
