Did a little off-road adventure from Tahoe to Vegas. 3 trucks ( Raptor, Jeep gladiator and Tacoma) and 11 dudes left San Diego for South Lake Tahoe on Friday. Arrived in South lake late Friday night. Saturday morning a few in the group decided to jump in the lake to get the trip started off right. Saturday took us south to the hills east of Topaz Lake, traveling to Hawthorn, then south to our “sleep under the stars” location just north of Scotty’s Castle.

No...just a town that was built to support a bogus ore mine...kind of a cool story behind it.

Looks like a blast! Huge props to the guy taking a Raptor through there. Looks pretty tight in a few spots.

If you zoom way in, you can see the Tacoma (left corner on zig zag trail) and Jeep mid span. When we hit the trail, we did realize it was one way and we were going the wrong way...thank goodness we didn’t encounter anyone else.

There were some unexpected tight spots. The pictures don’t do it justice just how tight and much of a drop off there was at some points in that rocky area. We had to stack rocks to make ramps to get the trucks down. Don’t think the Raptor was meant to articulate like this...haha!

Cool! You must have gone right past my area if you took 208 off 395 at Holbrook Junction and through Wellington / Smith Valley to 388 and Lucky Boy Pass to Hawthorne (I'm about 10 miles north of Wellington)

NV is chock full of trails going all over. I've been told you can go from my house to Vegas all on dirt. Same thing to the UT border via the Pony Express trail.

Nothing broke, just major trail rash on the trucks. Total miles on dirt was 488 miles...was suppose to be around 600, but had to cut short because of a few unexpected delays here and there. Raptor was overall the most fun and comfortable...it crushed all the chopped up dirt roads and kicked ass in the high speed dry lake beds. The Gladiator had a 2” lift added to it, so it did really good in the rocky stuff. The Tacoma was the little engine that could.

All three made it, that is impressive. All three made it without needing repairs to do so...that's really impressive. That really does look like fun though. Thanks for the pics:)

I was so turned around in some areas, I wasn’t sure where we were at...and I was the navigator. Haha

Cool trip, one you all will likely remember for a lifetime. What's the story on the semi trucks off road?

Looks like a kick ass time, I love stuff like this!!

More details, how many days to drive the trail, gas stops, etc... would really like to do something like this with my buddies.

Is this something someone could do without 4x4?

On the road trip up to Tahoe from San Diego, we hit crazy traffic about 4 miles south of Kramer Junction. A quick google images search found a dirt road that paralleled the 395. Apparently the Ryder truck and the Semi truck did the same google search.

We hit the trail at about 11:30am on Saturday and bedded down just north of Scotty’s Castle, in Death Valley, at 1:30am on Sunday morning. Hit the trail again around 6:30am Sunday and arrived at our Vegas vrbo rental at about 7:30pm Sunday night. We fueled up two times along the trail route, once in Hawthorne and the other in Beatty. Each truck had an additional 15gals on board but we never needed it. I think 4x4 is a must, but there may be some 2wd guys that might say differently. Obviously, we all have seen 2wd trophy trucks do some crazy stuff, but we weren’t in those types of rides...haha!
