So I have been so busy that I haven't had a chance to really sit down and consolidate the Hallett into one thread from Start to eventually "finished." I have had three or four different threads, and I tried to merge them and clean them up, but I haven't mastered the software of RDP 2.0 yet, so things were getting kinda wonky.. I managed to create a folder on my phone that has all the photo's to date and I have some reference points so here we go.

Side note I didn't put 2FF's name in the thread for any negative reason.. Rather to pay homage to the guy. This was one of his boats for awhile, and it's literally called 2FF's Holy Grail by most so that's why it's in there.

I can thank Preston at Horizon enough for pulling this deal together for me. There is little doubt without him specifically I wouldn’t have got the boat.

What we are working with..

3AD55F84-C5BF-4B2A-9C44-208518CD4200.jpeg

The button activated an old school foot wash down on the bow.. remember this boat was built in 98! Pretty far ahead of it's time.

C9CC7509-1967-42E4-9604-F5812AB12CE6.jpeg

Steve had someone buff out the top and it turned out "ok." If Steve would've done it himself I'm sure it would've been better.. They missed some stuff.

Dent in the rub rail with a stress crack above it.

Clear Coat kinda burned through in spots.

This is the clear fading from the sun.. This was a repair from the factory.

More repairs from the factory.. (Look at the transom)

Swim step is dull and the gel is torched.. That's not going to come back .

EDBF0C6E-5194-4D3C-AF38-A1418BB5B178.jpeg

This whole ski tow program is hokey as shit.. The water from the rope will run right down the pole and into the boat.. Doesn't sound like a big deal but a lot of water gets up there around that bezel. I'm gonna come to that later.

Interior is a 9 out of ten and has obviously been redone by either Hallett or Arko.

This boat has "pearl" in it, like a lot of them did in this era.. Virtually every white spot on the boat has it. The white that is on the top side has some yellowing going on.

Interior is perfect.

Under Cabin is a 8 out of 10.. It's pretty factory with a couple minor things here and there, but nobody would notice unless you are really digging deep.

Nice little shelf above the seats, and some old school rope lighting for mood lighting.

The built in cooler is a nice touch.. This was what was left over after a day of boating.

Hinge is a little rusty, old school bottle holders.

Old school Stereo shit.. Barely works this is all getting ripped out.

Finished off engine bay and hatch.. Love the classiness of the old school incandescent bulbs, but those will probably be changed to LED in the future.

and that

and all of that

Tube headers on the 377's are a nice touch! This was done factory by Merc Racing according to the old owner.. Supposedly these motors have a different cam in them as well.

This is a fuel transfer station.. I'm going to keep it, but will have it cleaned up as well.

Ok so we ran the boat twice and right now in time it’s right before my birthday weekend..

The boat leaks.. I don’t know where the water is coming from and my fat ass isn’t gonna find out. So it’s going to Barrett Custom Marine so they can fix it.

Steve also informed me the drain plugs weren’t dealing 100% but this is more water than that.

Barrett changed the drain plugs to the new bad ass Wddie Marine ones and yanked the ski pole for me. :)

Ran the boat for my birthday weekend and all went well!

Now it’s time to get started on cleaning this thing up and making it presentable..

Pedro and I have came up with a plan to just give the boat a really good once over with a wetsand and buff to see what we can get rid of. It has been done before but right guys right tools I think it could be better.

This was some of the issues with the boat when I dropped it off. Mostly repair work that is fading.

Fishing Fool removes all the external hardware needed. All screws are going in the trash, and all the old button heads will he changed to new.. (snaps for the cockpit cover etc). It’s the little shit like that, that makes a boat look old in a hurry. You won’t notice it but your subconscious does..

Checking in on Pedro over at Saleen and as expected he made the boat look as good as it possibly could! Almost all of the issues are now gone and the boat literally looks ten years newer!

Well as it turns out he gave me a present and regelled it while it was at his shop. Swim step is now brand new again!

Which now takes us to Wired 4 Sound.. Adam has done all my stereos forever and they always pound.

So I dropped it off and let him design up what he would do if it was his.. With a couple suggestions, that it’s a “Hallett” so we gotta keep it someone classy.

I don’t want the big led speaker rings everyone is doing.. I’d prefer recessed speakers, the lights will be red for mood lighting. Under the bow it can look like a French who’re house for all I care but it’s gotta have white lights as well.

This is a bit problematic because as a sponsor boat typically people kinda go over the top.. and yes that answers the question from the other thread.

The boat has so far been sponsored by

Barrett
Saleen Fiberglass
Kicker
& Wired for Sound on the install.

Adam knows that I like things loud so he opted for
4 12’s
4 8’s
8 6 1/2’s. (Two in cabin)
Enough Amps to competently push em all and enough red lights that Roxanne is gonna want to turn that light on. (For you younger types it's a song)

The 12’s are down firing under the back seat, the whole box is completely resin’d with several coats and reinforced with stainless screws.

Always liked that model from Hallet and the twin small blocks make it perfect. Cool restoration job. Looks brand new again, that is what is nice about gelcoat the way you can bring it back to life looking new again. What year is the hull and how many hours on her?

These are the beauty plates for the gunnels. These will go around the speakers and “recess” them in like I asked for so you can still use the grab handle.

Grab handle on top.

These are the front plates. They are covering a couple of things that were there before and the speakers are truly recessed in the fiberglass to clear the throttles on one side so they did it on both so it didn’t look weird.. (like it did before)

Ok now when we ripped the boat apart there’s no reason to just update the stereo..

All of this is being updated so it doesn’t look like 1998 Formica.. Hallett never did anything better with this so we are on our own.

I have a very talented RDP member making something’s for me that I hope everyone likes. It will be fine in a couple days so i’ll leave you in suspense for now. Lol

I wanted to update it but I also need to wrap my end of this up because I know Wired For Sound wants it out of their shop and they are nearly finished.

Call him 928-486-4529 Pedro will come by your house and take a look at it no need to tow it over there. He's done some stuff on my boat, I've been very happy with him and his service.

Front beauty panels have now been vinyl'd and installed.

There are several ways of attaching this. You can stud the board and then vinyl wrap over it. With thin plastic like this you may or may not have problems with that down the road (IMO). Or you can just stick with the tried and true "through bolt" method. So the board is counter sunk, and those flat head alan head screws pass through the board and get nylocks on the back side. The looks of the screws are fine with me (preferred in this case actually), but WFS will do it however ya want.

IMG_2595.JPG
IMG_2596.JPG

Throttle clearance no problemo!

In the bottom right hand side of this pic you can see where the old base knobs were, and a switch to run some fans on the old amps.

IMG_2597.JPG

Now the rear boards and speakers are being test fitted in this pic. :) It looks orange in the pic (camera), but in person they are a dark red.. Well technically it's all RGB so we can make it whatever color I want, but it will most likely stay on dark red. LOL

IMG_2567.JPG

Ok so in thi picture it's just an overview. There will be a grab handle over the top of this, and you will only see the three Alan heads. Two at the top and one in the center. The grab handle takes the other two holes. Honestly the grab handle probably would've been fine to hold the panel by itself, but it's a boat and shit happens.. If someone getting in stood on that thing or something else, it's better to have a couple more attachment points.

As far as the wiring.. I shouldn't have to explain this, but guys it's BEING BUILT, it ISN'T BUILT. Mike just grabbed the LED wires and dropped them down to a 12 volt power supply to take a picture.

IMG_2566.JPG

Close up of the Kicker Logo.. It's harder than you think to make that logo look that good, get vinyl in there and plexi, and make it all that tight!

Which brings us to the Amp Rack, and the beginning of our "Roxanne" Cabin lighting..

They decided to put the amp rack on the drivers side above the seat and ditch that shelf. This is one of those on a normal build I'd probably hide it, but we want to expose the Amps and show that it is all Kicker. And by all Kicker it is ALL KICKER.. Wired For Sound actually had to stop the build for a couple of days, because Kicker wanted their speaker wiring / RCA's and power cable all run in the boat as well.

So they take the amps and then they make little spacers to make it all look like one giant amp, and give it the correct spacing to fill the spot in the boat.

IMG_2563.JPG

Little dirty in the pic, but you will get the idea.

IMG_2564.JPG

The four kicker amps are now in line and mounted to the board with the spacers in between.

IMG_2589.JPG

Again I shouldn't have to explain this.. but guys IT'S BEING BUILT, IT ISN'T BUILT. This is just initially running the wiring behind the amp rack to get things setup. The only reason I had mike take the pics and upload them originally was just to show how things are done for educational purposes for the forum. This isn't the finished product.

Amp Rack is test fitted in the boat, and setup on an angle for better visibility.

IMG_2598.JPG

Testing the LED strips that will illuminate the amp rack (indirectly) and also give you your colored light theme on that side of the boat.

Peaking up in there to see the LED strip

As of right now I believe they just finished installing the distribution blocks for Power and they will begin the actual installation of the stereo into the boat permanently shortly.

Dave, I know you are really picky about stuff so just a thought. The square holes that were cut to back-light the kicker logo might be better if they were a circular hole? Just thinking as the glass flexes you gave each side four killer areas for stress risers to cause cracks to form... Or at least radius those corners?

Honestly man these things have such a sharp entry on them they ride pretty smooth.. I honestly don't foresee any problems with it. This boat is laid up like a freakin tank as well, so the gunnels don't move.. Well at all to be honest. LOL

So what kind of granite is 82daytona making for you?

I was going to have him do a grey granite with black specs, and this kind of red stuff throughout.. I changed my mind yesterday and went a different direction. :D I was very concerned that they might crack in the future, and it would be a total m'fer to get those glued on pieces back out of the boat without destroying everything.

To put granite in a boat I'd have them mill it down to a 1/4 inch thick (thin). They then put that on a stainless steel waffle board, and then they'd glue that to a piece of stainless, then you glue that to a counter top.

The granite itself is extremely weak and will break under it's own weight if it's not supported correctly. Just seems like a pretty fragile deal. Not saying we couldn't pull it off, but if someone slams a big bottle of Tito's down on it and it cracks? Then I'd be screwed, and would have to rip half the boat apart trying to unfuck that program. So I skipped it and went a different direction.

Little bit different then "flex" on a gunnel for a little tiny 2 inch square.

If someone were to commission nordic to build the modern version of this boat, how would the current merc 6.2's compare to the scorpions that Dave has?

EDIT: or would you rig one of the high HP small blocks that wakeboard boats get these days?

The swimstep does? I had some plans for it, but I didn't plan on changing it out as a whole? What do ya mean?

It looks great. I would swap the teak strips out for the new style white plastic/abs strips.

I'll put seadeck / gatorstep in there if I do anything with it. That white plastic stuff is slippery!

Got an update from Chris Drew tonight. He pulled the cabinets out of the Hallett. When he pulled the cooler cabinet out we discovered the drain was never sealed correctly from factory so it had been leaking the whole time. :(.

He took it home and was going to replace a couple portions of it, but ended up just rebuilding the whole box. Freshly resin’d!

RD, I really enjoy seeing pictures of your kids together. They are as cute as ladybugs.

It was nice seeing a photo of Texas Jet. I haven't spoken to him since the years we used to go to Plowman's Creek during the first weekend in October.

Oh yeah, the boat is super nice. :D

I hope you, your family, and friends have great times in it.

A buddy of mine makes these 120/12 volt refers, you basically get the refer cold on 120 volt then switch it over to 12 volt. They are just like a fridge and if you turn it down it will freeze your stuff! No ice needed! Get back home plug it in and your done leave the drinks inside.

I have one in my jeep and can show ya next time I’m out. These are not cheap ARB or generic type of fridges all made in the good ol USA, actually Escondido, Ca .

Military and medical grade! Very High quality, they are not cheap! One of his 1st customers has one on his sail boat for the past 15 years secured on his deck exposed to the ocean elements, as he sails around the world.

The brochure sez the interior is 19 X 13 X 26. That's pretty small.

Also notes it weighs 124 lbs!

I'm sure the dual compressors are the reason for the small cooled space and heavy weight but jeez, it doesn't seem like it's suitable for a boat.

The bad thing is, with modern compressor and control technology, i can imagine it would be pretty easy to use only 1 compressor and still have the dual voltage capability.
