Hi all,

buddy of mine had a reman 7.4 king cobra installed in his boat this off season. He’s been out twice so far this season and when we drained his bilge after use (his pump failed a while back and is on the to do list), we saw oil in the water coming out. Upon further inspection we saw Additional evidence in the bilge. What we didn’t totally expect was to see oil on the top of the engine. Not a ton, but some.

any ideas on what would cause this? This is kindof new to me but it appears that there is a little sealant on the intake manifold gaskets. Here are some pics… not the greatest but you get the idea…

And yes we’re going to take a look at the bilge pump tonight

V/C seeping, harness run under throttle assembly, used grommet on the breather from the v/c (paint cracked showing age), looks like a little fuel coming down from the carb mixing in there as well.

I would look for a leak at the pan, front and rear crank seals, timing cover in the lower corners etc.

Not impressed with the visual picture so far, I would bet the leaks are similar, due to reusing gaskets, or simply failing to prep or understand how to seal surfaces properly.

Drain plug dry? I mean literally every place a regular engine would leak is where you should be looking.

Thanks! Much appreciated. We’ll spend some time inspecting this thing in those places

Just had a similar issue on my new to me boat during it's maiden voyage. Turned out the power steering return hose clamp was loose and p/s fluid was seeping out and running all over the starboard side of the engine and down into the bilge.
