Did you go online and search name/ brand / pattern of chair?
Might be able to get them sent from a warehouse for only 2/3rds the cost

Damn. Fuck me, that's a pricey dining room set.

Have your wife get a temporary job at Pottery Barn. Employees get 40% off

Macy’s has pretty good sales. There used to be an outlet/overstock in LA but I think it’s closed. As others have said look online. Look at Overstock for decent deals.

We used Bassett but they are pricey too but well made AMERICAN.

This. We've been really happy with our purchases from Bassett.

I haven't been a fan of Pottery Barn for awhile now - overpriced, in my opinion, for the quality that you get.

We got our dining chairs at World Market. They are super well made and are extremely comfortable. They have great sales sometimes too.

The wife just made me buy a dining table from Pottery Barn yesterday. We won’t be purchasing chairs from them.

I’ve had good luck with “At Home”. Not too many stores around, but there’s deals to be had if you use an email coupon.

Ethan Allen has some that are pretty similar design wise. They aren't much cheaper but I would bet they are much better quality than Pottery Barn.

The thing to do is to have wife take a pic of what makes her happy and go online and find a local upholstery/ furniture guy working from a warehouse locally. Here in OC I met a guy showing regularly at the weekend swap meet at OC Fairgrounds. All he did was go around to fancy retailers taking pics and duplicating their shit for 25% off making it in his own warehouse. Couldn't tell the difference. Look online in your area.... I bet you'll find your guy.

Yikes !

Makes me happy that my living room and dining room have a pool table and poker table. Those are nice chairs but in my world fabric would end up thrashed in no time. If you have guests, kids/grandkids, dogs, drunks, sauce, gravy, wine, etc. in your house I would get all wooden chairs. I guess we just dont do anything that formal so it is hard to fathom.

I know you can always do better then pottery barn on pricing.

Good Luck

I had good luck at The Dump in Tempe. Went through each chair with wood glue and locktite. They felt solid for the two years I owned them.

We got our dining room chairs at…

Home Depot of all places. You might be amazed at what they have in their website. Lots of selection and prices. Bonus: use their 6 or 12 months interest free payments with their CC

I haven’t used a table in years. This is my mission control. Where I eat and compute with wireless keyboard.

Go to a store that uses local builders to create similar style and quality pieces. We used Comforts of Home in Lake Forest.

Second vote for at home it's all Chinese crap but I have never seen more chairs in one store. Doesn't sound like the OC swap meet is gonna come back but that was a go to.

It wouldn’t matter how much money I had. No way in hell I would pay that kind of money for dining room chairs.

Our dining room chairs get used for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are 27 years old and have been recovered twice since new.

We are going through the same thing right now. We’re having a 10’ formal dining table made by a local company to replicate a Pottery Barn table. Our table will be a lot nicer though- real wood, maple top, etc. The chairs she wants are from Ballard Design and the price was over $3200. And then she wants to buy covers for them! My cheap ass put my foot down. I think she said she was looking at Ikea. She needs to see them in person to make sure the aren’t total pieces of shit. I would pay more for a custom, American made chair if that’s an option.

We will occasionally go to estate sales of uber wealthy folks, like 9 figure folks. Most of the homes are not lived in and are second or third homes.

We were at one last weekend, it was a 15 million dollar second home 17K sq feet and full to the gills with furnishing, art, basically a fully equipped home. You can buy a 30K dining group for $5K. We bought a new, never walked on 12x14 Persian rug that was $20k for $1,500. The guy must have had 20 pairs of $2,000+ a pair cowboy boots never worn.

Another vote for Ethan Allen. Our dining set purchased in 2008 still looks new and has survived two kids (it was our only dining set until last year). Quality furniture if they have a design your wife likes.

I follow Pottery Barn on IG and every time they post a picture of something, there are several people complaining that their items haven’t arrived - some ordered like 6 months ago. Others say their items arrive damaged and the customer service sucks etc. I’d follow them for a couple weeks before pulling the trigger if I were you.

Back in the day when you could buy a commander for under 20k I got these chairs for $7.00 each. Considering what prices are these days I'd be willing to sell my set of four chairs for $2,000.
