I lived up on Skiatoik Lake. Beautiful and OK is/was a great state, nice people. The lakes are beautiful from afar but typically muddy and a little freaky if you're coming from Havasu or other clear water lakes.

The humidity could bring you down, they have huge copper heads and water moccasins that are not to be taken lightly, crazy ice and electrical storms along with endless spiders that will cover everything overnight.

My wife at the time couldn't handle the humidity and bugs so I put her on a plane in Tulsa, 🤠 Thank you Oklahoma!

Man Skiatook is another cool lake! Not very big, but very nice place to hang out. I have a good friend who builds really nice high end homes on that lake. Coyle Custom Homes is the name of his biz. I’m sure you can Google it and see his website or Facebook.

I live 35 miles from Oklahoma border in SC Kansas. Same weather. Nobody give any thought to being hit by tornado. It happens but chances are very remote. That being said I graduated from high school in Udall, KS. The deadliest tornado in Kansas history killed 75 out of a population of about 500 in 1955. I am 65 and have only seen in person 1 tornado and it was 20 miles away. But it blew somebody's house down.

I was offered a job in Oklahoma City last year and spent a month there. They have places to ride dirt bikes, Harleys, and a bunch of places to go boating so it worked for me. The offer wasn’t enough to uproot but after looking around I was actually looking forward to relocating. For the right money I’d go for sure.
That’s great to hear. Thanks so much for your input.

Which part of the weather exactly? LOL
Violents storms...tornado's etc. The whole region is like that.

Edmond is a cool spot..one of my buddies is an attorney there. Lots of Indian reservations and casinos...reservation cops love to dick you over on speeding FYI. Do you like toll roads? They are everywhere. I44 is one of the biggest drug highways in the nation...just something to be aware of.

My BIL's little brother lives in Yukon, he does some type of project management for Crossland out there.

Grand Lake is beautiful, until it floods. My friend out there used to have a house with one of those tracked mining carts to take them to their dock. Lots of trees and stumps in the lake...

I’m from eastern Oklahoma. My hometown is south of Tulsa about an hour. Eastern Oklahoma is a lot prettier than the rest of the state. It’s my home and I love it. SE Oklahoma is beautiful. Lots of hills and pines and cedars down there. Lots of off-roading, hunting and fishing all over the state. I personally don’t care for the OKC area, but Edmond is nice. Grand lake isn’t as big as everyone seems to think. There are so many huge boats on that lake that you will need at least a 27 or 28 deep Vee to keep from taking water over the bow on a busy weekend once folks start moving around. Broken Bow lake is one of Oklahoma’s best kept secrets. Eufaula is my “home” lake I guess. If you know where to go Eufaula is really nice. Most of it is really muddy though, like brown water most of the year muddy. Lake Tenkiller is worth a trip, Ft. Gibson lake is decent and lake Hudson. I’ve never been on Texoma, but it looks awesome from the road and online pics. One of these days I’m gonna her down there for a long weekend. It does get humid and hot there in the summer. I am used to it because I was raised there. The weather isn’t that bad if you pay attention to certain weather people who are really on top of shit. Stay away from Moore, there’s a reason why property is way cheaper there, and if you’re going to live on the I-44 corridor you will want a good storm shelter. Overall it’s literally my favorite place on earth, but I’m biased. I look forward to the day I am back there full time again!
Thank you for taking the time I really appreciate it. Would you say broken bow is your favorite?

I have been extended an offer to run a site in Oklahoma City. Does anyone have any experience in the area?

From online searches it seems like we would check out Edmond to live, good schools there. Our kids are 7 and 10.

It looked like the two good lakes to have a vacation home were “grand lake O the cherokees” and Texoma.

Any quality feedback is much appreciated.

Mike
You’ll need to be a Sooner fan, or you won’t fit in.

They don’t have any dispensaries close by, you’ll need to get your weed from Colorado.

Your kids will want to go to an out of state college, unless they play football. 😁

Rent for a year or two before you buy. Don’t sell your California home. You’ll probably want to return.

Broken Bow is beautiful, and it’s one of my favorite places to go for sure! The water is clear, excellent bass fishing, nice camp grounds. There are cabins there you can do weekend rentals on too. Below the dam they have white water rafting and kayaking. That said, as much as I love to get down there and enjoy the secluded nature of that lake, my favorite lake in Oklahoma is big ol muddy lake Eufaula. If you get over by the dam toward the end of summer Eufaula is nice. Plenty of Sandy beaches and the water clears up pretty well on the eastern end of the lake in late summer. I like it because of all the marinas and sand. I like to be able to beach my boat. There’s lot of places to get gas and food on the water. Also, that’s where most of my friends and family are on a weekend. I’ve never gone to the lake in eastern Oklahoma and not had a good time though.

You can grow your own in Oklahoma and even gift some to your friends. There are dispensaries all over OK.

You don't have to be a Sooner fan, but it's better then being a fan of little brother aka Okie State. Crimson looks better then puke Orange.

I’ve been through tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. I’ll take a tornado any day of the week- assuming you have a proper basement shelter. The chance of getting a direct hit is extremely small.

I'm the opposite, I'll take a typhoon, hurricane or earthquake over a tornado.

I’ve been through a 7.9 that lasted almost 2 minutes, and multiple super typhoons- one with 236 mph winds. Gimme the tornado anyday. Never been through an F5, but multiple f1-f3s.

I live in Colorado. Most common out of state license plates are:
1. Texas
2. Oklahoma
3. Calif
4.Kansas
They all come here for second homes or vacations.
Funny, when I go on vacation if it's not out of the country, we stay in Colorado. Sort of shows you where people like to live and visit.

OKHallett - We have heard a lot about Eufaula and looking forward to hit it next summer. Where is a good area to look for a house to rent? We will be coming from Texas

So you kept it at Antelope, but you never leave Colorado for vacation unless you're leaving the country? Boat must have been lonely :D

The Porum landing area hands down, that’s the nicest part of the lake. There are probably some houses to rent there. Even if you found a place to rent near Eufaula proper it’s only about a 30min boat ride over to the Porum area. There’s a cove there called The Cut. If you are into big lake parties that’s the spot to be on a busy weekend. The second nicest area in my opinion would be No. 9 landing. Sissy beach is a popular spot there. No. 9 has a large marina with gas on the water. Evergreen marina area is worth looking into as well. Try to come during Whole Hawg Days, or during the Golden Eagle Poker Run. Both of those weekends are big events for Eufaula. The poker runs are a great way to see all the marinas and cover a lot of the popular areas on the lake. There are usually cruise nights in town for Golden Eagle and Whole Hawg is a bike rally kinda deal. There’s starting to be more and more west coast custom boats out there too. At Sissy or The Cut on any given busy weekend you’re gonna see some DCBs Eliminators, theres a couple Halletts, I’ve seen an RPM out there Too. There’s a couple advantage party cats. These past couple seasons I’ve noticed a few MTI products floating around out there. It’s good times!

I forgot about Eufala. We spent a week on a houseboat ten years ago, had a good time. It is kinda brown water, but other than that was enjoyable.

My daughter spent several months there and loved OKC and surrounded area. We went out for the proposal from her know husband. We loved it as well. He currently plays basketball but would like to get on with Thunder management when he is done playing.
