A fun quik day ride destination. It starts by trailering a Polaris XP4-1k that we sometimes call Black Mamba from Havasu to Topock and then driving it to Oatman along an old section of Route 66.

Gas up the rzr, throw some ice over some beverages in the cooler, hook up the trailer and we are on our way.

It was a warm breezy day, so my copilot/wife reminds me how important it is to stay hydrated while I unload the rzr.

Time to roll out, wait... Just one thing to do before we ride off.

IMG_8652.jpg

Probably could done that anyplace along the way, but the nostalgia at Topock 66 is just setting the vibe for the ride.

It's a bit over twenty miles to our destination on a paved road. Being in the rzr gives us the opportunity to follow a few of the dirt trails along the way to some cool stuff away from the highway along the way.

We arrive a bit later than we planned, might have enjoyed the scenery too much along the way. We are welcomed with bikers, snow birds and tons of donkeys.

The old rustic town surrounds the Oatman Hotel that was built back in 1902.

IMG_8660.jpg

I read something that said the place had 10,000 people here back in its days of mining for gold. Today, just over a hundred.

IMG_8661.jpg

Hard to find a place to park at times, unless you get some of the locals to move for ya.

There is a lot of shit kickin fun to be had here if you can go back in time. I gotta say, watch every step along the way. These asses drop it like its hot anyplace they want.

Lots of little shops to wonder around, some are good for a few laughs. A few places for adults to hydrate and everyone loves ice cream.

IMG_8659.jpg

Did I mention parking? I could see where parking could be a challenge on a busy weekend day or if you had a Moho or a trailer. But in the rzr, lots of options [emoji106].

If we had gotten into Oatman a little sooner we would have enjoyed seeing more of the history at the museum.
Time to head back to Topock.

Headed back to Topock we get off into the dirt a bit more to explore and hydrate. There really are some super cool trails and places under the Black Mountain range off Highway Route 66.

I think this old gas station was in Golden Shores, gas was cheap, but tanks were empty.

Ready for some good food and hydration, back at Tooock.

See ya next time, looking forward to another journey.

Great write up Cam. I have been saying I wanted to go since the last time you posted about it a month ago or three weeks ago. We were going to go last Friday but it didn't work out. Was thinking I would pull the kids from School on a Friday possibly, maybe it wouldn't be so busy. I like the RZR idea. :thumbsup

The original thought was good, do it on our way back from Vegas. However, I knew we would behind the curve for time. It was good to do it on a day that the wind was blowing on da lake.

Rolling out solo across the desert wasn't my plan. We really kept it simple, followed the paved road from Topock thru Golden Shores. Fill your coolers, enjoy the open road, we left the pavement a few times to take in a viewpoint and to hydrate. Never more than a mile from the highway would be my guess and then back to it.

This is what I came to ask. All my riding buddies have gotten tickets in the mail while running from the river house to Topock66. The trails they use run through somewhere we ain?t supposed to be I guess. [emoji23]
