Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

I believe there are only two types of catfish species in the river.
One - Shovelnose Catfish
Two - Channel Cat

Not sure though. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The first picture is a Shovelnose Cat dark brown in color with little spekles all over it, and sharp teeth. That's why I had to wear a glove. My thunb was starting to get cut into after handling them all weekend.

First one is a channel cat

Second one is a bullhead cat...we call them mud cats around here. Both of them good eating fish.

Great pics...looks like loads of fun.

The dark speckled fish are Flathead cats.
We fish for them down here on the lower river outside of Blythe with live bluegill and talapia. This is supposed to be the bait of choice for the serious cat anglers, but they have taken worms, all kinds of cut bait, and once a hot wing! My personal best is 22lbs..., but the Ca record was taken out of Palo Verde a few years back... 75+lbs.

Your welcome. It was a fun weekend. Went by way to fast!

Believe it or not I was using hotdogs all weekend for catching catfish and it worked like a charm.
Seems to be the flathead catfish is all I catch these days. The channel cat just doesn't seem to bite like it use to 20 years ago. Must be tons more of these flathead cats in the river now.

Hotdogs, Nathans work great.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. Two shots, the morning glass and the Coors light had me drooling. :drool

Hotdogs and Catfish-

We were at Mead a few years ago, went to the Marina to get some ice and feed the carp. Next to the store on the dock was a gal selling hotdogs, drinks, etc. We watched as she took a metal pipe and banged it against the metal railing of the dock then squeezed the "juice" out of a hotdog into the water, and repeated this a couple times. A minute later, the head of a catfish popped out of the water and she tossed this fish a couple hotdogs broken up in chunks. The head had to be at least 10" wide, fockin huge ass fish! She told us she had been feeding this guy for some time and was eventually gonna fish him out for dinner. I always wondered if that fish would have tasted like a hotdog;).

Yeah hotdogs work like a charm. I've used them for years to catch fish. Also night crawlers, cheese, french fries and salamie do the trick also. In the winter time when the river water is much colder, it's nearly impossible to catch anything. When the water is warm 75F plus they bite nearly within a few minutes of throwing my fishing pole in.
