Campbell Carl on the assist…miss that guy.
The racers and or Ross need to do a better job of promoting the races ?Not sure what this tells us about this Forum and the future of power boat racing in general. So far over 50 replies and over 3,000 reactions to the Outlaw Nationals at Sundance while the 75th Annual SCSC Thanksgiving Regatta at Parker has generated just 4 replies and about 400 reactions. Anything wrong with this picture?

The small turnout of boats and racers. What part of the 75th annual Thanksgiving Regatta is a surprise to you?
Dan'l
Have you considered starting up your own sanctioning body to compete with the APBA? I bet you could make it work!Interesting post, and I'll bite..
yes it says a lot.
If ya like I'll give my two cents (pun intended) on it tomorrow.
Either video or text... your choice..
Too much corruption not enough give a shit, and a "I wanna win" mentality" led us to where we are at. People are about the boats, fans are about the party, not the results... Race on Sunday sell on Monday is dead...
Unless you are talking about outboard cats and 130's. Then there is millions at stake.

Without Ross there would be no circle races in the so cal / Parker area.I appreciate all the feedback. Confirms a lot of what I thought. I give Ross and SCSC a lot of credit for keeping these racing traditions alive. I don't know much about the structure of an event like the Outlaw Nationals -- do they pull a Coast Guard permit -- is there any insurance coverage for racers or spectators? -- is there any medical services on-site or on the water? or is this just an on-the-down-low kind of thing, do at your own risk?
as a venue for spectating La paz is great!I use to go to the circle races and would probably still go. Watching at Bluewater is a great time and you have a great view.
I started doing the Outlaw deal when it was very quiet and at Foxs. Owning a drag boat I tend to gravitate to those events a little more. More of my friends go to the Outlaws too.
From what I remember, the circle program is kind of slow and its truly an all day/weekend event. Knowing someone racing would make following it much more fun. Race announcing is another issue, if I as a spectator have no clue what the race results are or what the classes that are running, Im not engaged. Participation from the racers, I dont know any of the circle racers that post here or anywhere for that matter. Sundance is for sure a party as well and the passes are pretty quick, back to back and only one at a time. Maybe that makes it easier to follow? If the Outlaws didnt run, Id probably go sit on the beach at Bluewater again.
For me it's the location. I think when the Casino/Marina opens back up the crowd will be better? Not sure what this tells us about this Forum and the future of power boat racing in general. The racers and their crews might consider posting their photos and stories on one specific facebook page or whatever social media site they could all agree on.
As far as what it says about this site. I feel this site has always been more of a social deal then hardcore race. Over Thanksgiving most are with their families. The races at LaPaz are great if you’re racing. For a family of spectators there’s no amenities. No restaurant and such. The Outlaw event has all that.
Look at other venues. NJBA is the oldest one out there. Ming / Hart Park is the home of drag boat racing yet very very few spectators.
Now on the other hand the SCSC / APBA event at Long Beach is always packed. So they have a low draw at Parker and a huge turn out at LB. Safe to say that venues matters.
So sure, if the racers want fans, then maybe they need to beat the bushes and raise more awareness, other than Mr Games, who graces us with his fun Cracker Box pics and videos.
both my friends boats were down and out. Got 4 engines waiting for valve train parts and such. They will both be running in March.
I don't know about the BW cantina but the races were at La Paz and they have zilch there. Is the Cantina at BW closed?
Another thing I thought of is pit access. I dont remember if you had to buy passes to get into the pits for the circle races or not? Outlaws, FREE, and you can walk up a touch a boat in the parking lot.
I hear this was Andrews last race as he has more important things on his mind ... like catching up to Gregory.
@rivergames
I'll let Andrew answer any questions on his racing career. I just heard the talk around the pits and didn't ask any questions.Ahhh crap, I get the more important things, like girls being one example. But I'm afraid your superior wit has left feeling stupid as to whom Gregory is and why Mr Games wants to catch him

His presence brought joy to all.

Or even RDP, since racing is rarely covered officially or otherwise on RDP, if not for the occasional images posted by a photog, it would like this race, had Mr Brown not brought it up --- " Race, what Race ? "
He mentioned a thread and I found it in the Racing Section (Of all places to look ) but I'm not sure anybody attended, because other than a Live Link, the thread seems to have died.

I used to follow it more years ago, when I knew a few driver's names, now like most forms of boat and car racing, I'm not rooting for anybody, so I've lost interest.
at least you made a go of it.I used to cover them years back.. there was very little interest and it’s not cheap to cover events..
Years back I was in the pits on thanksgiving talking to Tom Buckles… he said “Dave you see Vic over there taking pics and posting results you need to do that”
I said “How’s that working out for him”
He said “Point Taken”
This is the first year I missed the outlaw deal.. I wanted to spend the day with my kids off-roading, but I did send @FastLoudPhoto down there to cover it, which I’m sure will end up being better coverage than I would do.

Corey is badass in that dirty bird!Races at LaPaz had BBQ, we didn't eat there but they were plugging them on the P.A. during intermission.
Good racing and our friend swept the unblown flat class with 4 first places....with a SBC to boot!
Agree, between boat races, the outlaw thing, off roading, desert bar big weekend, and people wanting to take their own boats out in the beautiful weather there was just too much to do on the same days. It was definitely not for lack of people in Parker, it was packed........Very few racers post on this forum. They have better things to do.
Does that mean there is anything wrong with that? Absolutely not. This is a social forum, and hence the need to talk more about the new refrigerator someone bought other than making E85 mandatory for all the racers.
Also...
If they would have moved the Sundance event to Sunday morning, instead of Saturday morning (same time as the Enduro) it would have been PACKED!
Bad timing.
I also think the LaPaz venue is WAY better than the Casino. I don't think Ross will Ever go back to the casino from the chatter I've heard.
I just wanted to quote you while I had the chance. Will there be a follow up on your cast iron skillet thread?
Did I miss your video press conference on the state of boat racing or are you working on it?Interesting post, and I'll bite..

From what I understand, its the latter of your two descriptions. Its a great event, and they do have spotter boats, but no officially trained medical crews on stand by. I've wondered how they get away with closing the river for hours without pulling a permit, but maybe they do. I don't know either. But it sure does draw the crowds.I appreciate all the feedback. Hi Erick -- I was just curious how the structure of the event is created. Agency permitting on boating events along the Parker Strip don't seem to be very consistent -- some events are heavily scrutinized while others appear to fly under the radar until something unfortunate happens. If events like this don't have generous liability insurance coverage I wouldn't be sleeping at night. But it does look like a lot of fun. From what I understand, its the latter of your two descriptions. 16' Steve Jones Flattbottom, fixed plates. Used to be driven by Kip Brown out of washingtonanyone know what make, year and model "ShotGun" SE-130 is ? the hull looks like a jet boat but the engine placement and cavitation plates say V-Drive.
