So now that I've got my boat running decent and done a few shakedown runs, I'm planning a trip to Parker April 1st-6th. I have never been, but after seeing all the pics everyone posts and the bad ass boats that run down there I gotta check this place out. I am planning on camping, so where is the best place to camp on the river as well as launch? I've heard of a couple of the bars on the river but can you dock your boat anywhere around them? I'm also wondering how much the river fluctuates at night because I plan on leaving my boat in the water. I am basically just wanting the low down on Parker.

Oh and I know I know...Parker is closed:beer

There are several great campgrounds along the strip. I'm partial to Sandbar Resort because you are so close to the water. Riverland and Buckskin are also great for tent camping. At Buckskin, you can rent one of the cabana sites which keeps a roof over your head (key for summer tent camping). Buckskin has a decent ramp. The ramp at Sandbar is rather narrow so you might enlist the help of a spotter for your first time or two. There are a few shallow spots to be wary of specifically just south of Fox's and Rock Island. Have a great trip.

I think river island state park is great for camping and the ramp is easy.

Just where we go.

Couple things... first are you thinking AZ side or Ca side. You said camping... tent camping or you have a trailer?

I like the AZ side better because you are much closer to town if you need to get something.

I would say hands down Pirates Den but if your tent camping I think it's a no go. Pirates has slips for rent which is really nice since the water is butt cold and you wouldn't have to fool with adjusting your box anchor.

Again tent camping you might want to check out La Paz next to pirates. The nice thing about La Paz... is you are walking distance to RoadRunner and Pirates.

Sandbar is real nice too and your also walking distance to Fox's and they have their own bar and grill.

Water drops at night. Don't even think of beaching your boat at night trust me on this :D

All the bars you can pull your boat up too.

Have a blast and post pics  You know in the name of boating content :D:thumbsup

Sorry one last thing.. if you have kid's hit up Buckskin for pizza it's killer and they have a little arcade for the kid's and a real nice patio to sit outside.

I'll be tent camping. Just me and my lady friend. No kids. We'll be staying with other friends but I'm not sure where they are planning to stay. I'm mainly concerned about keeping the boat in the water because loading and unloading the boat every night would be a pain in the ass. I don't really care which side of the river.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Are you a bar fly or do you like to keep to yourself and be mellow ?

I'd say sandbar resort if your tent camping, your right next to fox's . Anchor the boat out a little ways and you'll be fine, I used to anchor a 24' hallett overnight and never had an issue.

Bar fly for sure.

Ok... just my opinion. I'd stay at either La Paz or Sandbar Resort stumbling distance to the bars. Both are waterfront too... so you can keep an eye on your boat. I'm not a fan of driving the boat at night so it's nice just to walk home from the bars. When you make your reservation wherever you decide make sure you ask that they have tent camping. Because like I mentioned before I'm almost certain Pirate's doesn't and others may not as well. The only reason I didn't recommend Buckskin is because you said your a bar fly and if your hitting up RR or Fox's at night. Your gonna have to drive the boat or car or take a taxi and why.. if you can just stay next to the bar :p Anyway hope I helped have a blast :thumbsup

Welp it looks like my buddy already made reservations at Echo Lodge. They are bringing a 5th wheel so I plan on tenting it next to there rig. Can you leave your boat in the water overnight there?

Yes, no problem leaving it in overnight. Just anchor out a little ways and have an autobilge

Echo also has a little bar called "Paradise" if memory serves. :)

The farther up river you go the more the water fluctuates.. Picture it kind of like a downhill with a bowl at the bottom. The Casino doesn't hardly fluctuate at all, the closer you get to the damn the more the water moves up and down.

Just give yourself a little extra room when mooring.

Echo is a cool spot for sure, lots of parties there! :D

I don't have an auto bildge in my boat but it doesnt leak a drop when it sits in the water over night. Are you guys worried about water coming over the back of the boat at night or something? I am more worried about the boat breaking loose lol.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Get yourself a box anchor. The boat won't be going anywhere or break loose. If you have a conventional anchor, you may have some issues.

Echo is cool, I had my fifth wheel stored there for a few years. You still may have some blue-hairs shuffling around the bar at early evening around those dates, but overall It's good.

Launch ramp sucks.

Water level wont be a issue, but getting your boat to stay might be, pretty rough along that stretch with a good current.

I might be out that weekend if so I will help you out with boat parking. You will have a blast. The Park bar is already open (Paradise) and they make some good drinks. Try a River Water when you are there. Buckskin is just across the river Bomb pizza and $3.50 Pitchers at happy hour. Foxes is just south 2 minutes in the boat. You can rent a travel trailer with ac from the park instead of tenting it, but weather will still be cool enough to sleep at night in a tent.
