So building a new house and the builder has used, looks to be drywall on all the new builds so far for the lid on the patio cover but I want to go with stucco for the lid which would be the best for this the stucco or go with the drywall ?

Most of the builders in our area do it like that. There’s nothing to worry about that I know of.

I have drywall on one house and stucco on my second house. Spiders love the stucco ceiling and I am constantly cleaning up cob webs. The house with drywall ceilings on the patios is 25 years old and they have held up fine.

We have drywall in Havasu. I thought it was weird, but it has been fine.

My patio lid in Murrieta is drywall. Smooth-ish finish with can lights. Looks clean.

Our previous Havasu house has drywall under the back patio. Some errant golf balls have bounced off the concrete and made a golf ball impression on the patio ceiling. Other than that its good.

I've been thinking about this for months, stucco would be easier but I really like the look or t&g /shiplap. But to keep that high gloss finish with out constantly repainting I want a vinyl or pvc product

My old Havasu house had drywall, joint tape dried out and peeled at around 20 yrs....took me a couple hrs work to remove, retape, texture and paint.....no biggie.
New house is stucco.

Not sure what the best choice would be, but if the plaster isn't at least about a quarter inch thick, in about 10 years the thin plaster and tape will start falling down, I've had to fix two houses now. Have a friend that's had no problem in 15 years, but his plaster looks much thicker than what was applied to mine. Maybe I should have put a couple of good coats of paint over the original when it was new.

If it's a large area take the weight of the stucco (scratch, brown, finish) into account. It may not matter but if the framing members were not sized for it you could have a problem. Do you already have or plan on installing ceiling fans? Weight could become a problem for you.

I have drywall at a house and the pool is very close to the patio. Mine needs to be redone every few years. I believe the pool being so close is the issue. Moisture coming off the pool all Summer getting caught under that patio cover. If it were me I would do tongue and groove.

My patio roof leaked, and destroyed the drywall. I fixed the leak, and fixed the drywall.

My house in Havasu has drywall. Some of the tape that hides the joints fell off. Had a guy fix it and repaint.

I did mine in white washed shiplap. Stole the idea from another member on here. Looks awesome.

I'm closing mine in, I have recessed lights and speakers I'm installing - those pieces of plywood are temporary - the last picture is what I want it to look like more or less

I'd recommend the yellow board at least. Dense Armor. It has a fiberglass matting instead of just paper like regular drywall.

A more expensive option is HydroBlok panels. But they are waterproof.
