Flora-Bama!

Buddy recently moved there....

He's from So Cal, Worked in Los Angeles....

Break his balls constantly Reminding him he's still in LA. (Lower Alabama)

But I'm seriously envious...

Flora-bama for a 'Bushwacker' then walk across the street to the Yacht Club (sound side) for some good food. Check out the revised downtown Pensacola area - Palafax is the main strip with bars, restaurants and shops. Pensacola beach has a nice pier, Crabs restaurant and sugar white sand....just keep an eye out for the Lifeguard flags...some rip currents and jelly fish warnings. If you feel adventurous....about an 1 1/2 hour drive East check out Destin and Crab Island

If you want to stay in Pensacola and get some nightlife in, Palafox is going to be your only option. There's a nice wine bar on the corner, a great steakhouse on the other end. Don't get too excited, it's not that nice of a town. Pensacola Beach has one small area with a handful of restaurants. It's going to be mobbed as the week goes on. Someone mentioned Flora-Bama which is fun place, but not sure it's really worth the drive over just going to Pens Beach. Same with Destin, long drive for a lateral move.

Just an update on our trip
By far my most favorite spot in FL.
We have done Miami, FLL, Ft Myers, Tampa and Orlando (Disney)
Powder soft white sand. People were friendly. Traffic, but moved ok. Not as humid as S Florida IMO but maybe just lucky break.
Food was fantastic

Had two bedroom suite at Hilton Pensacola Beach and although we had a car—it’s not really needed. Pedicabs and bike rentals are easy to fetch. Lots of great food in walking distance.

Highly recommend Pensacola if your looking to go somewhere new.

Ate at PegLeg Pete’s, Red Fish Blue Fish, Crabs and a few Mom/Pop places.

Love that area! We spend time there in the Spring and Fall when weather and crowds are ideal. People are friendly and conservative vs. overly redneck.

Redfish Bluefish is great. Their redfish is amazing. Love the atmosphere and views. Great area to boat the sound.

We love Navarre Beach. Halfway between Pensacola and Destin. A little sleepy but the best beach. Walk the pier there in the evening to see sea turtles and other wildlife. Beautiful views.

Rent a pontoon in Destin and spend a weekday at crab island. Weekends are too crowded. If the Blue Angels are practicing, find a way to go. Awesome experience!

Walk the beach after dark with a flashlight and chase/catch the small crabs in the sand. Or the larger ones floating in the surf. Brings out the kid in everyone.

Other restaurants near Navarre/Destin we love:
The Gulf - great food and atmosphere. Watch the boats go by
Where Ya At (Get the Royal Red Shrimp)
The Shack - everything is good here
Donut Hole for breakfast
Shark Bite (casual breakfast)
Burrito Del Sol - Casual but really good
Dewey Destins for Grilled Shrimp and Scallops

Nothing like the white sand and pure water in that area. Healing! Enjoy!

My in-laws own a unit in Tristan Towers. Has amazing views and the beach across the street is awesome. If you ever get the chance to see the Blue Angels fly on the beach, do it. Truly an experience

Big fan of Destin... got friends there and the vibe is much slower than SoCal if like sleepy. Winters awesome and sand is sugary.

The panhandle also has better blue water fishing relatively close to shore compared to SWFL. To get in good Marlin/YF Tuna depths you have to run 130 mi off Sarasota but only 50 mi to the “nipple” from Pensacola. But winter weather is quite a bit cooler/ blustery than Sarasota area.
