for those that may have been wondering.
'GOTTA HAVE A MAP'
glad we did.
great place soooooooooo big and soo much to see, some of the land marks we were not able to find, guy at the marina said with the low water lots of stuff was hidden and harder to find if you don't know were exactly to look.. "miners stairs" for instance but great trip overall :D

Thanks for sharing.
I have only been once, in 2001 a group of 4 families towed three boats and two jetskis from NorCal to Bullfrog. We went across U.S. 50.
Rented a 60 ft. HB for a week.
I can honestly say it belongs on every boaters bucket list.
We dream of going back some day, but launching from Page instead of BF.

RVRMom if memory serves the HB rental place will give you a pretty detailed map of the lake, there are numbered bouys out there, take a pair of binoculars it makes them easier to read from a distance. If they don't give it to you buy one, it is worth having out there.
Get off the main channel by late afternoon, it can get windy.
Take lots of batteries for your camera, you'll need them.
By the second night we had hauled all the mattresses up onto the upper deck and everyone was sleeping under the stars...awesome, unforgettable trip.

Binoc's just went on the 'take' list. Funny this past weekend, like I said I have been reading so much. I also watched a bunch of youtube's as well. And all the things you mentioned have been noted. I'm a big list girl. :D
Rebar and kleg (sp) lights are a couple things we didn't think of but are on the list now LOL

We are not new to houseboating. Been to Shasta 4 times and Mead twice. But never to Powell. So I've been researching the lake more than the houseboating aspect.

Sidenote heard the knats are awful :thumbsdown

did not notice any during the day..beach's are clean just prickers in the sand so little ones need river shoes...bouy's are easy to read and you need them to navigate this place...
don't get to worked up or over analize then youll stress. just go with it it's a place that will make you go back

I don't remember a bug problem, but who knows?
We took along 3-4 5 gallon gas jugs and were careful about planning trips with the boats sightseeing. We never passed a marina without filling the boats and those jugs, and we kept both the ski boats and HB as full as possible. At the end of the deal, when you are trying to get outta there, the less time you spend at the pump topping off the HB the better.
We also took two large ice chests, one to store ice in and never open unless removing a block, and another to haul ice with if we knew we were gonna be within range of a marina. We kept the storage one inside the HB outta the sun at all times, and we'd throw wet towels over the transport one when it was a 35-40 or more minute run to a marina for ice.
If I think of anything else worthwhile I will pm you.
We live about 3 hours from Shasta and have done a couple HB trips there, and are thinking about another...but I really want to go back to Powell. It is breathtaking, one of a kind.

We added a 'meat only' cooler. Dry ice on the bottom, last meal (meat) on the botom then stacked each meal's meat above that (reverse order) with duct tape to seal the gap of the lid. Plan ALL of the meals down to the primary meat and use that cooler for that.

Other thought is pre-cook a ton of bacon. Can be used for breakfast, lunch (BLT's) and chopped for baked taters.

CC... funny you mention. B/c I pulled some old threads and you had said this before and I thought wow great idea :thumbsup

Also the dry ice deal as well. I plan on making a bunch of frozen casserole's and breakfast burrittos.

Sorry total threadjack... back to the beautiful pics

I have some more questions about Powell but I'll start another thread this week.

Dy ice is a must. We used the deep freezer on the back of the boat to store all the frozen meat & dinner staples. I want to call Wahweap right now to book a trip before summer's over. :champagne: We cruised all the way up to Bull Frog & hit slot canyons as we found them. nice trip, but much prettier down at the South end of the lake.

We were at Lake Powell last week as well. Beached the houseboat at mile marker 33.

A good lake map is a MUST. Follow the channel markers and you will be fine.

Some Canyons to explore: Anasazi, Secret, Cathedral, Reflection, Davis Gulch.
