44 is a hell of an age to start racing. Still throw the white plastics on there every once in a while too. It did get a little "freshening up" last year. It's a great bike, the guys I race with keep trying to swipe the wheels for the hubs. View attachment 234951
Ouch...sorry to hear about that.

44 is tough to start but its that stuff that keeps you young and going! If you ever see an orange manx out at Dove or driving through Jawbone flag me down or stop for a beer! We have been mixing it up a bit and heading out there.

A few from the last, but hopefully not last ever, Catalina GP. The pic of Pastrana's bike was just before it had a nuclear meltdown because his hillbilly mechanic put gas(not premix) in it. The last one is of my brother and just about everyone's boyhood mx idol. CGP2.jpg CGP1.jpg CGP3.jpg CGP4.jpg CGP6.jpg

mercedes4.jpg This is my wifes BFF. They used to race together back in the 80's / 90's. Merc was quite the racer back then. They both teach MX classes at Honda in Colton now.

Love all the pics in this thread!

I've been meaning to take my kids to the Honda Learn to Ride school in Colton. Do they do a good job? How are they with 40 yr. Old women who can't get past a fear of falling down? I keep telling her that there are 3 more gears after second, why not use them? lol

They train all ages at Colton. My wife likes the small kids but she also does the adult class. It might be better if your wife learns from another woman. :D

wow does that bring back memories...me and Mercedes has many bar to bar battles in the late 80's racing the 125 int. class. My uncle would just shake his head and say "you got beat by a girl......" that chick could ride.....

When I was on 125s Mercedes was out at Canyon one weekend... She gave me a beat down :D There are a lot of fast chicks out there these days but she was a very rare bread in her time! :thumbsup

Shawn Kalos... I used to watch Kalos as a kid at Canyon Raceway. His Grandpa had him set up with a sweet bus with garage built in back with an elevator lift on the side.... He could throw a KX 500 upside down over a jump called Suicide... He was the man

Great thread - boats are fun but nothing beats the rush that can be had on the dirt.

My first MX race was in 1966. Yamaha 125 with the "git kit". One of my lifetime buddies on the Penton.

Astrodome 1979 I think.

This year at Diamond Don's Vintage National. 1972 380 CZ. Swapped the lead at least 5 times with the guy on the Maico. He won.

God I do love to ride.

As much as I love bikes I have to disagree on this. :)
We will have to just agree there is a rush for both. For me - I can park the boats longer than I can park the bikes before that urge hits me and I just have to do it.

Short tracking in a barn with another lifelong buddy. 1980

Does anyone remember a Jimmy Wilson? He used to race in the 70's I believe. I work with him and heard he used to be and still is one hell of a rider.

Just sent in my pre entries for the Searchlight GP. I have my kids doing it this year as well. They are finally both on big bikes. Gotta try and smoke them again, getting harder every time....

Nothing like going at it with a good friend. I never did get around him.

Not racing but this is where it all started for me. Zundapp 200 with my grandmother - 1959.

Here is a map of our enduro loop, a little over 10 miles, we have been riding it over 20 years. When we want a change,
we ride it at night backwards. Lots of tights and technical, a good rider will average 45 minutes or so per lap. map.jpg

I mentioned the 24 Hours of Glen Helen earlier and I just found all of our pics from the race, so I thought I'd post em up! :cool

All loaded up and ready to head to San Berdoo...

CIMG0921.jpg

CIMG0923.jpg

We got a late start from P-town so we stopped in Blythe for the night before heading on to Glen Helen... Something about sleeping at the river that just resets your clock :thumbsup

Off to the races... Rollin to the track in twin diesel pushers is a luxury I could get used to!

CIMG0930.jpg

We arrived just in time to wait in line for the gates to open.. so, we went and explored a bit

CIMG0956.jpg

CIMG0957.jpg

The course was about 11 miles long... our group was running in the mid 20 mins/lap. The section that was on the mx track was were you rested... everything else was blown out single track and BIG hills :skull

Riders meeting...

CIMG0968.jpg

This was one of our buddy's nephew and a team member... 17th birthday so we let him start. He got a little overzealous trying to hang with Ty Davis on the first lap and woke up in a helicopter :thumbsdown

After our starter wadded up the YZ we put Damian on the WR to try to make up some time....

CIMG0975.jpg

Sliding the bike into a road sign while running 5th wide left it pretty bent up...

CIMG0976.jpg CIMG0977.jpg

A 24 hour race leaves plenty of down time for bench racing...:D

CIMG0979.jpg CIMG0980.jpg CIMG0981.jpg

My buddy Rob ready for his turn...

CIMG0984.jpg

After we straightened out the YZ we each put a couple laps in on it and agreed that we all preferred the WR so we put the YZ back in impound...:D
