any body ever have Plantar Facitis?? I have had it for 2 years. last May I had knee surgery and all of the limping and walking funny from that surgery caused the Plantar Facia to get to messed up that the doctor recommended surgery. so In january I had that operation done. let me tell you that the foot is not a fun place to have sliced open!!! I am still recovering from this. I still have alot of pain in my foot and it swells over the sides of my shoe by then end of every day. but to top it off when the doctor went in he cut some nerves in my foot!!! so once the super major swelling went down and the cast was off I noticed that most of my heel is dead. like stick a knife in it dead. there is a thin strip around the outside of it that still has feeling but it burns like fire most of the time. I asked the doctor if this was normal and he said " there are alor of nerves in the foot" and " if the feeling comes back at all it may take a year or so". WTF so now I am afraid to walk bare footed in fear somsteping on something and ripping my foot open, I cant really do flip flops and my balance is for shit since I cant tell how much pressure is on the left heel, when I get out of bed in the morning I still need a walker to get me to the shower because it hurts too bad to put pressure on it. this is one surgery I am sad I had done. I am 500% worse now then before. seems like 2013 aint going my way so far.

just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience

I have it, but not severe. If I run more often, 3-4/week or longer distances, it gets worse. I have found that a rolling pin on the floor and a towel to bite down on works best for me. Deep massage is very helpful. Sorry to hear your having issues.

Plantar fasciitis is some painful shit, especially in the morning or anytime you've been off your feet for a while. Never had surgery for it, but did wear orthotics for a while.

Hopefully the feeling will return to your foot soon - hang in there buddy!

I've had fairly good results with the OTC shoe inserts. You have to use them though. I wear my flip flops alot less now too.

Foot problems suck for sure. I puctured the bottom of my foot at the beach a couple years ago and it was horrible. Whatever I stepped on went to the bone and made a 2"+ opening. Took along time to heal. I had some numbness for a while, but eventually the feeling came back. Just takes time.

I dont know how severe mine is, but mine cropped up after a motocross racing injury where I broke my Cuneiform Bone in half, had a Liz Frank Joint Fracture between 1st and 2nd Metatarsal, multiple non-displaced fractures at the base of my foot, and a torn Calcaneofibular Ligement, all because some douche cut the track during a race and waded the guy in front of me out of the starting gate and I had nowhere to go...

I have a huge, hard knot that lies directly on the middle of my foot from Plantar Facitis. Message therapists say it can be worked out, but it hurts like hell when they start man-handling it to work it out. Some days are better than others, depends on how long Im on my feet for and what kind of shoes I was wearing. But mornings are always the worst. I have to limp and tip toe when I first get out of bed as if Im getting my 80yr old feet warmed up and moving.

The best thing Ive found to help out is orthotics in the long run. Both in my work shoes and running shoes. I run 2 miles 3-5x a week, play league softball 2-3 nights a week, and the mornings after softball are the worse. So I definitely feel some of your pain. I couldnt imagine going through surgery and having that feeling. Docs were on the fence about repairing my foot in the first place so I could return back to motocross, some wanted to put 2-3 screws in while others didnt. Even reached out to Dr Mark in TX who is a well known ortho surgeron, but couldnt get funded by insurance for the fix and he promised me he would have be back on the bike in 2 months... Needless to say, I havent riden competatively since....

I have it too! My cousin is a podiatrist and told me I'd need surgery...6 weeks of no 4 inch heels...I will just tolerate the pain until I can't stand it anymore! But, nobody is taking my shoes from me!

Sucks that your foot has no feeling...but it fits right in at RDP...silver lining????

Sorry to hear that surgery hasn't fix your PF.

I had PF for about a year, four years ago. Hobbled around europe for two weeks, that wasn't much fun. Doc wanted to do surgery but I was reluctant. Went into a running shoe store and this young runner/clerk asked me if I ever tried the Strassburg sock? It basically stretches your arch, wear it all night while you're sleeping. After wearing it about a week, the PF was gone. I also bought Archmolds on line and they are the best inserts for running/walking. I wear them in all my shoes now. Haven't had a reccurence. If I every feel like it may be coming back, I wear the sock a couple nights and even a hint goes away. At 60, I can still run 3-4 miles every other day.

You guys need to talk to a Podiatrist or a PT specialist.

If you have then stretch your calves 2x per day. There are two particular stretches that need to be done. Hopefully over the long term it will help.

If that doesn't work you are doomed. :p:D

I had PF bad for a couple of years.. When I woke up in the morning I'd literally "hobble" to the bathroom. Anytime I had been sitting for more then 5 minutes I could hardly walk for the first 5 or so minutes. I could stand still and just kind of work through it and then it would subside after that tendon got stretched out a bit, but after sometime on your feet it would hurt so much worse the next day. I tried the rolling pin deal (except I used a bottle) it didn't work for me at all. I would actually start stretching my feet in my sleep to get ready to walk in the morning. Other then the immense pain it also poses a kind of security risk.. What if someone broke in the house in the middle of the night type stuff? Other then sit up and bed and shoot them I wouldn't have been able to do much.. Let alone chase after them.

I remember reading some posts online (on here) about it and someone said "I cured myself" and I thought "There's no fucking way someone could cure themselves of this.." and pretty much resided to having it the rest of my life.

I do not have it today, it is all but gone.

I bought and continue to wear "Nike Shox" (or Shocks), they are a kind of cross trainer shoe, with some serious cushion in the back.. My foot started feeling better every day. I ditched the reef flip flops, and the rainbows etc.. and bought a pair of Sanuk's.. And literally in a week the whole program was gone. No more foot pain, no more tension in the back of my calves etc.. Make an effort to drink more water as well.

It worked for me.. Maybe it will work for you.

x2 on the type of shoes you wear. I got it bad a while back when I changed running shoes. Went back to a shoe with a higher arch and it went away and never came back. I also heard orthotics which create an higher arch help, too.

I'd rather wear "jimmy shoes". Then orthodics. Lol

I had it, and after some online research, did the boot and orthotics deal. You wear the boot at night (PITA), and it stretches the PF tendon. Wear the orthotics to increase the arch height. Took about a month, but gradually went away and hasn't recurred.

The Charger's Antonio Gates has been battling it for some time as well. Two seasons ago he was all but hobbled, I don't think he was 100% last season, either. Seems to take a long time to heal, like most soft tissue injuries.

Find a PT thats a PhD in PT. I'd NEVER go to a podietrist, but thats just me.
If you can????? You're stretching it twice a day?
Ya know, keep your knee straight, heel flat on the floor, lean FAR forward till you feel the burn/stretch in the back of your calf.
hold for 30 seconds, off & repeat 10 times......
OR
Stand on the stair, on the ball of your foot with toes still on & the rest of your foot hanging out there. Go down slowly,(ankle) knee straight, you'll
feel the stretch in the Plantar. Hold.... come off,.... repeat.
Thats what my guy gave me. 10 days I was fine.
The pain is lack of blood flow thru a closed artery. Stretching it "excersises the vein to "fatten up/ open up & allow blood to flow thru it again
Pain goes away.
Almost rampant with middle aged couch/desk potatoes, who play in boats instead of "walking" 18 holes on Sundays... :D

I used to get it in high school. I marched in the band (i know i'm going to regret that statement) /drumline and carring the weight and 6 day a week practices plays hell on your feet. It's most deffinately not fun. Now I only get it if I run a lot.Sorry to hear about the numbness in your heel, I cut my right thumb open pretty bad a few months ago and got the nerve right under the first knuckle. So now i have feeling on half the pad and the other half feels like its got super glue over it(hardly any feeling and no grip)

I've had P.F. for about 20 years now. Seen a Podiatrist, got the excercises, paid for the orthodics, (lost them when I would throw an old pair of shoes away)

Someone told me to try Skecher ShapeUps and loved them right away. Helped my foot problems (mostly right foot) tremendously. I wear them for work and I'm a Contractor/Carpenter on my feet all day. My wife either gets them directly from the Skecher store near our house or orders 4 at a time on line. I'm a tough size, 13 Wide. Online is better.

I like the white but they come in all colors.

Ive got it bad now. With work as busy as it is I cant stay off my feet. Crossfit wasn't helping at all either. Im going to get inserts this weekend and just trying to take it easy when I can. Today is the first day its felt better in some time.

Funny thing is I remember having this 10 years ago but never looked into it.

Used a tennis ball to massage the area as I sat behind my work desk, advanced to a golf ball. Took a month and hurt like hell but worked for me. Good luck.

Totally feel your pain LomitaBob... but take hope, the numbness does go away...

I fell rock climbing over 20 years ago and literally blew both of my feet up. Lost several joints and countless tendons. Had to be surgically put back together as best as possible and to this day walk on clubs for lack of a better term. Lots of the nerves were severed during the surgery and I was in the same boat as you are in now. Fast forward a couple of years and rarely does anybody even know that there is a problem. Once in a while, after a long day working on my feet I'll develop a limp and someone will notice but it is rare.

After my reparitive surgery I had that same numbness you are experiencing in both feet and had the same explanation from the doctors. Sucked big time. Always felt like I was stepping on a rock or something. It took a solid year or so before I started feeling close to normal.

Today, I have 100% feeling in my feet and wear regular shoes like everyone else, including Sanucks that RD mentions above, not without pain mind you, but I get along fine. Still don't have 75% full motion but get along without that burning sensation that you are experiencing. Side note, that burning sensation is a positive, that is the nerve endings repairing themselves...

Best of luck to you... foot injuries SUCK!!!

I've had it for about a year now, some mornings I have to hop on one leg to the shower so I can run hot water on the bottom of my foot to loosen it up. I use my daughters jump rope every night to stretch my calf and sole of my foot so it won't hurt as bad in the morning when I wake up. Not fun, it sucks getting old.

I'm on the treadmill 5 to 6 days a week and walk approximately 5-7 miles each time. I notice I get the extreme pain most of you are talking about in the morning. I've also noticed the toe next to my big toe on each foot are numb most of the time. Any idea if this is one of the symptoms of PF?

I had numbness in 3 toes, surgery did fix that. google the stretches and stick with it.

I think it was my combination of all of the year of foot ball at 360+ lbs, the getting up to 420 lbs then dropping 200lbs of it in a year ( and loosing all of the fat and cushion in my feet) that caused mine to get so bad. all I did was step wrong in a restaurant kitchen, kinda half on and half off of a kitchen mat that did it. the 1st 2 years werent that bad I did the exercises like crazy. but by the time I was through with knee surgery and the PT from that I had partially torn the plantar facia so surgery was my only option.
