I have a Hypertherm Powernax XP45 that works extremely well. I also own a Miller Spectrum 375 that I use for all of my small jobs (hobby).
It really depends on your budget and what color you want. I’m mostly a Blue Miller man with my tig, mig, and plasma. Hobart is a great choice for home use as well. It’s made by Miller.

I'm looking at the Hobart 27i plasma cutter. I really need to buy it as every time I look at it, it goes up in price.

What is a good budget for a home use plasma?

I’ve used Hypertherm before ….

Does he already have air setup?

If not, I’ve had a great two year run with my Hypertherm Powermax30 Air. Figured I’d outgrow it by now but it’s been a beast for being a tiny lunchbox with a built in air compressor.

Don’t know much about the Lincoln, but our Hypertherm has been a good unit for us. 8+ years old

i have the Hyperthem 45 and it has been great and has Long reach tips for cutting and gouging that really add to the versatility i have tried the 30 but not enough power because i seldom cut anything less than 3/16 but cut as thick as 3/4 with the 45 the 65 is great and probably what i should have

I have a blue point 110 . Never liked it. It does the job but not always reliable.

Stay away from anything with a built in compressor.

Was thinking the one with the compressor and option to use seperate compressor might be more versatile, what are the issues with the built in?

I have a lincoln, i'm not really that fond of it. It goes into "safety shutdown" randomly and semi often, so you have to ground the torch out then walk back to the machine and reset it. It pisses me off. Never seen a miller do that bullshit.

Also Look at the prices and availability of torch parts when making your decision.

I have found air quality to b critical with plasma's. Clean, dry air. Anyone else have this experience or are the newer machines more forgiving?

Can't go wrong with Hypertherm have 2 and 1 Miller. Both are good

Consider the Consumables with longer term availability, Hypertherm is a very popular brand and will be much easier to locate Consumables.

Nope, you need clean dry air or you will go through consumables.
