I feel like a lot of people are confusing PPP loans and the SBA emergency loans

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

From the link..

Companies and nonprofit organizations that receive PPP loans may have the loans forgiven if they meet certain criteria, including not laying off employees during an 8-week period covered by the loan. Applicants must attest in their application that the loans are necessary for their continuing operation. Note: This data includes loan applications approved by banks and submitted to the SBA. It may not reflect money distributed to, or credit used by, a given company.
150k all will be forgiven straight up. But the guys above will have to show the books. They're already arresting people all over the country. Dudes buying Bentleys, lamb's etc. I would want to be the guys buying boats and houses off the PPP. The loan is a different thing. But I know a lot of people are using the PPP.

Hi I'm from the Government and I'm hear to help. LMAO. Let me explain who really doesn't care about actual, real life small business......The SBA.

If your a sole prop they just assume you hiding income right out of the gate. I went after a grant because I'm making payroll by paying it 1st however I am not getting invoices paid timley and I need to pay suppliers. You guessed it, declined. On top of that I bank a Wells Fargo who have shut 75% of their branches blaming Covid and all the SBA Talent has moved on. Whatever, we'll figure it out.

Good to see ya around again, bud. 👍

...Talked to someone who said they knew people who were getting $10,000 apiece cash to keep their businesses that they don’t even have a float ...whatever the program was in California it seems to have run out of money ...I wonder why???...

I’m having one of those rainy days now, and don’t “need” the money as I do have plenty in savings. I am taking the benefit as I’ve paid in for almost 2 decades since last drawing unemployment. 0 guilts given.

hold up, so you got laid off? I thought you had a fairly secure tech related job?

I am starting to hear about more higher & mid level jobs being shed.... this is crazy.

I am sure they will extend some form of extra unemployment money..... it will probably eventually become permanent. Wild times, but this is how you inflate a country out of debt.

Yea I did get laid off 2 weeks ago. Tech is still doing OK at the moment. Not as good as a year ago, but business is moving along.

We were forecasting a down year for 2020 before COVID in my patch, as 2019 was great and we were able to pull many 2020 deals forward. My rep and I were the top performing sales team in the company.

I was owed some past compensation from 2019 and after 7 months into 2020, they agreed to pay me, then laid me off a week later. :) they laid off 6-7 people in total I believe.

The job market in my sector still has opportunities. I’ve already had a couple interviews, and one more tomorrow.

LOF, it sucks you got laid off, but sounds good that you have interviews and there are job openings in your line of work. Couldn't decide on a happy or sad face for your post. I'm not knowledgeable in tech stuff. I've seen construction out here is still going, but the guys doing it are kind of tightening the purse strings. Just little stuff hera and there, but enough for rumors to spread about who's late paying, or who is bidding lower than they used to.

I am concerned that in construction we are all running, even sprinting, towards the cliff. It seems to me that there will have to be a reconciliation with all these people out of work. I think the PPP money and unemployment stimulus has kept everyone going for a while, but just like any bubble, the longer it takes (bigger it gets) the bigger the burst is.

I hope I'm wrong and we all carry on like nothing happened but I don't see how that is possible with so many on unemployment and so many sectors hit so hard.

Big construction is going to start to wrap up on the south west coast . The stadiums are about done and casinos are wrapping up too . Will be interesting to see how big money people spend it . A lot of industries have a new out look on how to do business in the future .

I’ll ask you this question.. who decided “need” in any of the PPP loan process.

The .gov said here is a loan program, if your business might be affected by covid, you can apply. If you use the money for X,Y, & Z you don’t have to pay it back.

That is all they said.

If a guy bought a Lamborghini with the money, sure string him up.

If you own stock of a publicly traded company that took PPP funds and didn’t “need” them, then their stock went up because of their windfall, what does that make you? Did you give back your profits from the stock?

My point is that this is a lot more complex than just “dishonest business owner takes PPP funds”.

We ALL benefited in the short term from those funds in some way.

Not me . Not one benefit . Not one loan . Just royal fucked over by the feds. And state . Completely destroyed .

We never collected unemployment , no sba loans, no PPP, I Have that $20 an hour job now . Barely takes care of our health insurance , for the month.
Cashed out life insurance and other investments . Before I start selling off all my toys that are paid for .
Still have some cash left. That I transfer to cover monthly expenses , for our closed business. And home expenses
. Almost 6 months now . Shit, I thought we would of been open by middle of May. I don't see us opening up at all this year.

Fuck all those people that took advantage of the PPP. I know a few living high on the hog now . I hope they rot in hell , or in a fed prison.
Just couldn't understand , how 50/60 million were out if work and they couldn't keep boats , rv 's , trailers , luxury items on the floor.

You’ll be happy to know that Kamilla Harris is on record tonight saying that she will unequivocally provide taxpayer funded health care to all illegals...and yore racist if you disagree.
Feel that pain? That’s CA twisting the knife into your kidney.

In the last economic catastrophe, the one where a democrat said something about "too big to fail", I failed and fell hard. I saw contractors taking deposits for work, then changing supply yards to stiff the last one. I couldn't, or wouldn't, risk screwing a customer or a supply house. Both of them made my job possible. In the end, I couldn't keep up. Such is life. Getting biblical, philosophical or such, may have been the best thing to happen to me overall. Being short on work gave me time to help my Mom when she was real sick. It gave me time to rethink my view on both life and work. We left the area, some probably thought we ran with our tails between our legs. It worked for the better. We literally make roughly 20% of what we used to. That's ok. My stuff isn't the fastest or the newest. That's ok also. With the current climate of society as a whole, I think the extra time has also given me the chance to become more prepared for the future, and not just worried about the monthly bills. As is said often, "The Lord works in mysterious ways". 20 and 25 dollar an hour jobs will help you eat, and help with the roof over your head. The rest is just stuff. That was a hard thing to wrap my head around. Starting over beats not trying, too many just give up and give in.

Thank you. It was time for a change anyway, I had begun looking before Covid, but when this started I figured I would just ride out the storm. I have come to realize life has a way of shaking me out of my comfort zone.

There is also a number in my “Rainy Day Savings” that I have NEVER been able to attain for more than a month or so. As soon as the account hits that number, something happens. Save some more again, hit the number, boom something comes up. It has happened like 7 or 8 times to the point I “hide” money for that account in other accounts. The commission money my old company owed me went into the “Rainy Day” account. I knew something was coming.

Have you closed up your bowling ally for good? Why not try and keep it open and defy the order and at the same time keeping to CDC precautions?

Sucks hope you get to open soon but seems the ones who scam the system never seem to get caught or suffer from karma which is the sad part!Bust your ass off for years only to get taken out in 6 months.

One reason i never decided to own a business i am not the type to screw one over today was my last day of work in ca worked at same place for 26 years and have seen alot lately in residential construction the bids are getting lower and the money owed is getting larger not uncommon for a plumbing company to just screw you out of 40k then move on to another hot mopper screw them too. we just moved to az i stayed back for work but cashing out here put us in a really good place and we still enjoy simple life, heck at this time if i had a 20 dollar an our part time job it would be really easy living.Toys are paid although not new and flashy.Iam the guy in camp with the older stuff having the most fun then the ones with the newer ask to help fix cause they cant keep up maintaining their shit!

The thing is. We only do events 40/50 a month . Every month for 20 years . Not one booking since January . So really we felt these lock downs since February .
open bowl or open play we tried , some weekends $200 some $40 . Open play is The biggest waste of time .
At this point , it's for sale ,
If it doesn't sell and if I make it through , we will reopen one day .
People are scarred to death . To do anything indoors . So no bookings .

I have come to grips with it . It's okay . I have already moved on emotionally . We have a few interested parties to buy . Just waiting on offers . Keeping fingers crossed .

I just didnt want to take out any loans at my age .to save business if I had too. 55 next month. I'll move on cash out .
Bowling property I paid way down . I'll make out on that. When it sells , maybe not what I really wanted, but enough. my house is paid way down . I'll sell that also , coming out in good shape. Money wise .
I'm kind of the same way . Older toys . Was actually going to hit you up , this last glamis season . As I usually go by myself .
Running around in my old sand car.

It’s a tough one when life as you know it is turned completely on end.

I still have reoccurring dreams of living on our property with Deb and having life by the balls. That’s no shit. All the time.
I’ll wake up and not know where I am at first.
But hey, such is life. There are no promises, no guarantees, no happy ever after EXCEPT what we make of it.

I couldn't lie, cheat and steal to have fancier toys, couldn't face my wife and kids...
I'd rather work a minimum wage job then be like that.

Those that were smart enough to pull off using the PPP loan program to buy toys are smart enough to hide it so that the actual funds from the loan were not utilized to purchase the toys. One thing the ppp doesn’t stop is using the profits from not having to make payroll for 2.5 months and buying new boats, cars, etc with that money. If they do close that loophole, many people are screwed.

we can all hope the .gov catches these people, but reality is they won’t.

What is the "loophole"? PPP was meant for you to keep all your employees for 8 weeks. (Now extended to 24 week to use funds) And to pay a portion of Rent/Mortgage, and utilities. That's all, that's it. You will have to prove with your quarterly payroll filings that you maintained payroll to be forgiven. Unless your loan was 150K or less.

The guy in Florida that bought the Lambo was just on the news, they said he is facing 30 years in prison if convicted...

Is that smart?
Smile now, cry later?

No toys and partying are worth prison.

They might not get everyone, but they'll get a bunch of them.

Hard to play it straight when many aren't, still the best way though.

That's all, that's it. You will have to prove with your quarterly payroll filings that you maintained payroll to be forgiven. Unless your loan was 150K or less.

exactly. there are many companies that received the loan, that were not affected by the shutdown stayed opening and operating while collecting ppp money. This resulted in them operating at a high profit being the ppp money is essentially free Payroll. frees up a lot of money to buy toys etc. 🤷🏻‍♂️
It’s really simple and I’m shocked the .gov didn’t think this part through or they did and just didn’t care in exchange for pushing something through quickly.

They didn’t care. They wanted a symbolic win, and knew people would take the money and pump up the economy.

When I talked to the local SnapOn guy last week, I asked him how things were. You can usually get a feel for things buy late or no pays. He said things haven't slowed at all, but hadn't picked up either. I guess the mechanics out here aren't using PPP to buy important stuff, but seen two driving new trucks that had taken the low hanging fruit. Sad, but I'm pretty sure things hadn't picked up that much for them.
