I just did this on my flat bottom. This stuff is super easy to use. Couple videos on YouTube as well

Grind/sand bottom til you get to good glass. Prep as stated in instructions and apply. I did not fill and re drill. I just fixed some damage from a bent prop shaft.

Thanks!!!
Also found Evercoat kitty & tiger hair filler which is stronger. Longer fibers
Might go with 1 of those cause the hole is so big ?????

So you're going to change/move the strut , good idea. Wish I could tell you exactly how I filled my shaft hole in, but its been quite a few years ago. I did use cloth and resin though and I filled it in from the outside and the inside. It will become more obvious what you need to do when you get the strut on and put the hole saw up near the bottom. What strut configuration/angle are you going with?

lay this material in from the top side if you can. Comes in different sizes too. Buy what you need.

The area around the shaft hole needs to be ground away at a 12:1 ratio based on hull thickness from both inside and outside and then laminated back up to the original thickness using the resin and cloth of your choice. The 1708 biaxial noted above is a great choice.

I would grind the bottom of the hull back some and get another layer of 1708 over the repair from the bottom. I would grind out a good ways to make sure the repair has enough surface area for a solid bond. Just my .02.

I just hope he added more glass from the outside and faired that surface smooth prior to drilling the hole. That would be my concern.

I just tried to search but could not find it, but I think somewhere on this website is a video or pictures of Pete Geriux (sp) cutting a prop shaft hole.

Those pics are grinding back the gel and new glass plug and making a template for the 1708 bottom patch!!!

BBB, I would grind the surface back larger than the circle you drew on the template. Not necessarily to create a deep crater on the bottom of the hull, but to create a shallow even transition from old surface to new glass. I think another member mentioned it, but a 12 to 1 ratio. That way you'll have plenty of new glass on the outside and you'll help to strengthen that entire area.

What materials are you using? Polyester, Vinylester or Epoxy resins? You may have already said but I didn't read back through the entire thread.

The way I do it, I grind my glass back far enough and deep enough that I can no longer see a seam. Once all of the glass (Old and new), looks to be the same, then I start adding layers of 1708 and building it back up from there. Just my 02.

The entire hole got filled with layers of 1708 about 3 layers at a time
The 2 outer layers
And still have to do the inside!!!

Saw this on FB, Dave Connolly, not a great picture but looks like they maybe drill through a wood block first to establish a pilot hole to prevent the bit from wandering once it contacts the hull. He's a super nice guy to talk to, maybe he can answer some of your questions.

I sawed through a 2 x 4 the 3.5" way and let that be my guide. Jacked it up tight to the bottom.

I was incorrect in what I posted, I hole sawed through the 1.5" thickness and jacked it up against the bottom like Dave did.
