Calling all Spectra 24 V-Drive owners, and anyone who knows about this subject. I purchased my boat in 2008 with a blown motor. I have since restored it and deep in how it is performing. I don't have anything to compare it to though. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My setup.
489 BBC 500 HP
T400 Transmission
Casale C500 4% overdrivin.
Current prop is a 12 3/8 X 14

What are you running?

IMG_5797.jpg

Motor Size / HP?
Transmission?
Drive with gears?
Propeller?

How does it perform?
What speeds do you see?
How does it do towing a skier / tuber?

I am getting a lot of different opinions from boat shops on what prop to run. Some are suggesting as small as a 11 in diameter.

Thanks in advance.

Howard 24-6 Custom Cruiser, full berth.

stock 405H Hardin Marine BB chevy.

405 hp

Velvet drive

C500 .96 underdriven

EASILY runs 5K and will go past 6 if you let it climb. Nowhere near enough gear in mine, I really think the gears were installed upside down on accident.

13.5 dia(?) 16 pitch. SS three blade. It is an angry looking sumbitch.

50MPH straight up. Time feels like it is going backwards.

That ol girl comes out of the hole like it is doing its job, feels like it could pull three skiers.

I've got a 24xs with a 498" motor making 550hp at sea level. TH400 and 15% overdrive. Current prop is a 14/16 3 blade. On Lake Arrowhead the motor can't pull much past 4200 rpm which is good for around 50mph The prop however is awesome for the 35 mph speed limit the lake has. I can either cruise around in 2nd at 3000 or if we want to break some rules shifting to 3rd gets us up over 40mph but really lugs the motor. At Lake Mead it makes a little more power and can pull more RPM but we usually leave the 14/16 on there for tubing or wake boarding. I've got a 12/15 Braaksma steel 3-blade that runs a solid 55mph at Parker but the motor is still not able to rev past 4900 to 5000.

Our boat is always loaded with tons of crap. Chairs. Coolers. BBQ. Fridge freeze. Tools. Anchors (yeah, 2). So the boat runs wet. I think if I emptied it out and had just me behind the wheel it might see 56mph. :)

I have a new to me project (Sanger 24xs) which I would like to rig for a little more speed. The new goal is 65mph with a 650 to 700hp NA motor @ 540+ inches.

Aloha

Thank you all for the info.
My boat with the 12 3/8 x 14 will do 50 mph at 4000 rpm and that's it. That was also with 6 people in it and just after fill up holding 80 gallons of fuel. Even on a single person run the motor would not rev out.
I will be giving menkens a call.

I can only rev to 4000 and do 50 mph. Not exactly sure where to go from here. I will be giving menkens a call to pick his brain.

I've got a 24 xs with a 8.9:1 454 oval port heads, jacketed stainless exhaust (450 hp?) 4% overdriven, bronze 13.5 x 14.5 3 blade with .080" of cupping. Runs 52 mph at 5000 with just me and my son, tanks half full. Great for pulling skiers, tubing etc. It a good all around prop. I/ve tried a 13x16 and it's too much prop for my motor. I also have a 14x14 4 blade, its smooth, but no top end.
