Impressive stitch work hope they were able to get it all handled for you. I am on twice yearly, had a few scares and removals requiring stitches but nothing like that. Had to due 6 week chemo treatment on my face last year.

That’s some serious stitching there!

I feel your pain. I had a chunk cut out of my shoulder about a year ago but only ended up with about 4” of stitches.

Like you, I’ve got pics of the before/during/after. Seems the wife and kids thought it was disgusting while I thought it was interesting 😁.

Yup, my Dad and Sister are in the same boat. Getting chunks cut off regularly. I burn just as bad but watched my Dad do one of his first ones when I was late in HS --- learned a little from it and take care of business. My sister on the other hand still scorches a few times a year and commonly is burnt. She had a slightly smaller version on her arm a few weeks ago. I think she is finally starting to get the message in the last few months to a year.

I see the OP is a Ginger so you're a huge target for skin cancer I feel your pain guy BUT daaumm I haven't suffered such large excisions.

As a Melanoma survivor for just over 12yrs now, please wear sunscreen with ZINC use 45spf Chapstick on your lips and wear a hat & 50spf rash guards.
Apply sunscreen all day long about every hour or two.
Just recently had Basil removed from my lower lip that was delayed due to Covid so it grew and got worse, F**K was that painful I wanted to cry like a little school girl.

I'll throw my latest out there, but it pales compared to the carnage above. Two weeks ago and not much of a scar left, another two weeks and I'll be hard pressed to even find the scar.

Squamous cell, my second so far. Basel cell and Melanomas cut out within the last two years. Sixty six years of sitting in the sun finally has caught up with me. All this while seeing the dermatologist four times a year to get the suspicious stuff frozen off.

That's a beauty.
Today I had #12, first one was in 2000. My best one had 26 stitches.
This one just below the calf. Had to go back in once and take a little more out. The skin couldn't be pulled to close the entire area and he just stitched the deepest part.

I see Derm twice a year and he alway freezes some spots. Melanoma can be one of the most deadly cancers if it gets to lymph nodes. Glad everyone is catching it early. Some gruesome pictures of removals but better than cancer.

The pics are rough but a great visual lesson for sure. I see my dermatologist once a year and have had some frozen off and a couple small ones cut off but nothing like you guys have been through.

Its regular maintenance for a lot of us. The worst one for me was a 2” x3”patch on my left temple.
Lots of other little ones. I go in twice a year for a trim.

Damn, good looking out. It just bleeds on its own?
yep...
if you catch them before they start bleeding... they can be prolonged with Freeze method or ointment...

imo, my damaged occurred, surfing, MX, construction... I was always shirt less... now paying for it...
plus, previously mentioned... a ginger...
on surgery days.... ive never seen an olive skin person getting prep for Thanksgiving carving...

my grandkids.... sunscreen, hats, and long sleeve rash guards....
my boys have their Moms skin... tan easily and never burn....

99% treatable.... just be cautious

I have one of those on my back where they found my Melanoma cancer. Also have nice little scar in my armpit from where they removed the lymph nodes as part of the cancer deal.

Yup, me too regarding the lymph nodes- left arm pit. plus interferon treatment (no chemo thank god) and am still alive and kicking.
Someone asked "What does it look like" they appear like moles but with jagged, crusty edges and usually are not round, they have an irregular shape.
Size is irrelevant, I had a spot on my chest, about the size of a pencil eraser, after UCLA oncology got done, I now have a 10 inch scar that runs parallel under my left breast. I am NOT a Doctor so don't take my word for it, go to an actual dermatologist- not your primary care physician. AND DONT FREEZE IT, if in doubt, cut it out!
