Pup made it a year before wiping out his first shoes. Chew toys are ripped to shreds immediately. Same with water and Gatorade bottles. He’s got a couple key fobs but only toyed with them and got bored.

Wife wore these yesterday for the first/last time.

Has the dogs activity level changed? Our younger one gets antsy when she doesn't get enough exercise.

He’s actually really good. He gets a morning walk pretty much every day. (He jumps on the bed and stands above you until someone gets up). I let him off leash and he gets some good runs in.
We’re getting him fixed in Nov. Hoping it calms him down a bit.

Wife just sent this. Guess he’s ready for his walk.

Our 6 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rosie. I’m doing obedience training with her currently, and considering protection training as well. She’s smart as heck, and the trainer tells me I’ll be able to flip her switch on and off instantly. I’m a little concerned that it’s great in theory, but may be risky in reality. Anybody have experience with that type of training?

I just got back from training. I will try and get some pictures Sat in the daylight. Not sure if we will do the bite work training. She has the drive though and Her grandmother is trained that way. They were working with a 8 month old doberman tonight. One guy in bite suit was petting her while she was attacking his leg. A lot of training. They create the drive to bite then dial them in.

Thanks. I’ll watch for pictures in case you have the opportunity.

The thing about the protection training that appeals most to me is the level of obedience it would take her to, though I wouldn’t mind the protection if needed. I’m going to ask the trainer more questions and make a decision.

I got a few pictures yesterday at training. I am there for obedience. The other trainers I went to were not helpful with a working dog. They had good intentions but after 10 sessions and $800 dog learned nothing.

The new trainer and His Crew train French Ring. He knows working dogs. There are a few Dobermans, German Shepherds, 6 or so Malinois, Dutch Shepherds and a Beuceron. In 1 class Stormy learned more than in 10 classes at the zoom room dog training. Not there to learn the bite work all though She has the drive and Her Grandparents were trained in bite work. The bite work dogs we train side by side with are very well trained in obedience.

The basket is used for object guarding. Part of the training. If the guy gets within a meter of the object they guard it. They use 2 baskets at times also. And as soon as He grabs second basket it is on.

There are several different dogs in these pics.

This one He is working on teaching the bite. They are crazy they pet the dog and tell them good dog while it's biting. He said you got to be quick with your hands. But they usually bite on the suit and don't let go.

Some of the really well trained dogs are 3-4 years of training experience. 2-3 days week with trainer and practice almost every day with the owner. It's a lot of time and commitment. Lucky for Us it is close by. Some drive 2 1/2 hours 2-3 days a week to get there and up to 3 hours home. They just had nationals in Ohio. They travel a ways to compete. To get to level 3 training they will have invested lots of time and tens of thousands in training.

Not sure where we will stop. Currently Stormy is excelling and each session something new is learned. She did really good Saturday. Even had a Mal turn for Her when She was off leash instead of the Guy in the suit and she never went crazy or reacted. She has leash aggression towards other dogs and one of the main reasons for the training to break it. We have had her on the field with 4 other dogs around her without a reaction. She did get riled up when the dog next to her was attacking the guy in the suit.

@NicPaus. Thanks for the follow-up. The pictures and description give a pretty good idea of what to expect with the protection/bite training.

My Ridgeback is responding well to obedience training. In just one week (5 private sessions, plus at-home practice) it’s like night and day. She is responding quickly (usually) and consistently (almost) to my commands, and she’s learning I’m the one and only. Today, my brother told her to come, and she just looked at me for my command. Prior to this, I was also struggling with some behavioral issues (licking, snapping, chewing hands, etc.). It’s all stuff that was slowly getting better on our own, but now it’s like a switch was flipped.

I have 5 more sessions over two weeks, and will follow that with their group sessions. Protection training starts at one year old, so I have 6 months or longer to decide for certain on that.

Unfortunately, I got a call today. Our trainer has Covid, so no new commands this week.

yeah... he’s 5months and already 65 lbs. I‘m guessing 140 when he fills out. He is as sweet as they come. Been a really good pup so far. And his big brother has been just amazing. So patient and loving. Couldn’t be happier.
How old is big brother?

👍

I’m not sure some folks understand how much time and energy not to mention money is involved with taking a dog to an IPO 1 title, never mind going on to 2 or 3.

Since you are into it you probably recognize some of the obedience lessons going on here.

Jen, the gal that owned that dog Silence is out of the Chicago area.
Used to love seeing her posting new videos of Silence progress.
She had an older German Shepherd named Jerry Lee, he was also IPO trained.
Chicago or anywhere, I’m sure she slept sound every night with those two under the roof.😉
Silence passed away after a short battle with a rare form of ocular cancer.

The large black guy with the corn rows is Wayne Singleton. If you are a mid westerner and into IPO you will run across him at events at some point.

He really was.
Among the trainers and decoys (decoys are those dummy’s that volunteer to wear the suit😉) he had a reputation of the dog that would while latching on to your arm, he would be sideways in the air and simultaneously punch you in the face and/or solar plexus with his front paws.

He just loved the game.
For what it’s worth, he has a son out there in the world today😎

Wife bought some. They’re the old school type.
I was worried if he led with his tongue. 😳
I need to break a counter bandit. He isn't as tall so he just grabs anything that may hang over the edge.
