My wife and I decided this year, for our anniversary, we'd keep it low-key and find somewhere to get out of the So.AZ heat for a few days and do a little camping, so the planning begins. Flagstaff, Williams area campgrounds seemed to be full up, so we threw a dart at a map and found what looked like a nice little park in Camp Verde. Never been to Camp Verde, so why not! Done and booked.

Fast forward a few days, and the wife says let's leave earlier and meet some friends in Havasu for a long weekend before we head to Camp Verde. OK, so much for getting out of the heat. The motorhome is loaded, Jeep is in tow, and we head off for Havasu Falls RV resort. Nice little park but not much to look at; think of the Walmart Parking lot without the Walmart. It's
just asphalt, concrete, and some gravel mixed in. On returning from a quick Saturday morning walk around the park, I see this sticking out of the sidewall of the left rear tire in the Jeep. WTF! We concluded it must have happened during a trip to the store the day before. Make a quick call to the Tire Man, and they will get a new tire ordered up for Monday morning install.

Monday morning, about 9:30, I get a call the tire is in and to come on down. 30 min in and out, great company with excellent customer service! BTW, here is what came out of the tire. Maybe I can sharpen it back up and use it again. 😂

Get out of Havasu about noon, jump on hwy 40, and off we go to Camp Verde. Pretty drive, but we dodge a few monsoons brewing along the way. BTW hwy 40 between Kingman and Flagstaff has to be one of the worst highways I've ever driven; I thought the motorhome was going shake apart, and this thing normally rides like a passenger car.

Approximately 250 miles later, we make it to Verde Ranch RV Resort, a very cool place right on the Verde River, about 15 min from Cottonwood and 30 min from Sedona.

Although they have lots of pull-through spots, we opted for a back-in spot near the river.

There were about 15 of these covered wagons with full AC/heat and private bathrooms just outside. I didn't look into the prices, but it could make for a fun place for kids or folks that may not have a motorhome. I didn't get any pictures, but they also have some small 1 and 2-bedroom cabins for rent.

We headed into Sedona for a day to check out some amazing scenery and fantastic food. Even if you are not a spiritual person, you gotta see the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The views alone make it worth the trip.

We spent a couple more days relaxing and doing some local exploring but didn't take too many other pictures. As our anniversary approaches, I'm looking for a restaurant to take mama to and figured a nice steakhouse in Sedona would fit the bill. Mama decides f'-that were going old school and found what turned out to be a fantastic OG Italian joint in Cottonwood called Nic's, and what a great choice that was. The place had that Frank Sinatra-era feel, with excellent service, strong drinks, full-sized portions, and a dark mahogany ambiance. BTW, they specialize in martinis, so there is that... Highly recommend Nic's if you're in the area.

Of course, you can't go on a trip without some motorhome drama... The 8D chassis battery shit the bed! Luckily the Insterstate distributer in Prescott Valley has them in stock, so a quick trip to PV had us all fixed up.

And, the obligatory FJB pic... 1 of 3 fuel stops along the way.

Another successful trip and memories made... Next month's trip is planned, Tucson Dragway for the No Prep Kings Street Outlaws race.

Haven't been to Nic's yet but really like the Colt 804 grill in Cottonwood for next time you are up there.
Thanks for the tip, I'm sure we'll back to the area.

Cool pictures, looks like a fun trip. Thanks for sharing!
Not sure... I woke up one day and realized we're not young 20-somethings anymore.

Excellent pix.
X2 on the Colt 805 grille.
They run a huge smoker on the dog friendly patio daily.
The meats are fantastic.
————— ———
A tip hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else:

Rolling down the I 10 yesterday near Phoenix I looked in the rear view and saw the bedroom slide out working it’s way out.
Hanging out 11” at 75 mph.
The drive mechanism failed and released it.

I stopped & pushed it back in.
In the bedroom put a tool box on top to hold the slide out in. Only temp cure I could do.

Working good.

Don’t know if yours is hydraulic or electric. If electric there is a lever on motor to engage or disengage locks. Mine gets bumped in storage area once in a while, fun going around corners and the slide opening a few inches with my kids in the dinet… I use manual locks now also.

Don't you have these with your trailer? My Jayco came with these Transit Bars. They fit on the top of the slide between inner side and outer wall.

Mine is old style. Looks like yours is completely different. Check out mygrandrv.com and irv2.com. Lots of good stuff at these sites. Quickly looking, make sure to hold button for a few seconds after closing until motor stops to”lock”. Or if hydraulic It may have an internal leak in rams.

It happens to me from time to time when I close it and it slowly backs out (living room and kitchen slide). I have had to close up to ten times before it locks in but once it does it doesn't slide out any more it is good to go. Its random and doesn't happen a lot though. Maybe air in the lines? I do keep a close eye on it all as I am driving but it has never come out while underway.

I have the 351M 5th wheel
