RJ West, owner of Composite Craft Boats in Manteca, CA is building my new SST 45 race boat. RJ is the current national champion in 45's so he knows a thing or two on how to build a fast boat.

After my barrel roll at this years San Diego Bayfair race my boat was so torn up it didn't make sense to repair it so I'm going new for 2014.

This is the start, spraying the bottom gelcoat. Boat will be all composite, no wood. Bottom will be black, deck will be mainly white with red graphics. It will be the first 45 built with several design changes that RJ has tested with success on larger F1 boats.

I'll post pics all through the process as it comes to life. It will be race ready for the first race in March.

Small changes, adding skin. The kevlar struts and vacuum bagging will be this week. Then the deck and capsule will be started while the bottom cures.

Here are mock ups on an existing boat of two new improvements that will be added for the first time to my build.

New flip open capsule roof with solid mounted windshield. Easier in and out, one latch instead of two, and improved impact protection from the previous designs. And a new rear scoop to force fresh air into the engine.

Here is the latest. No wood, all glass and carbon Kevlar board. The bottom is basically done and will be pulled from the mold later today. Work on the deck and safety capsule kicks off next week.

Puddlestone is coming quick. Do you have the tiller for the motor in case there isn't time to rig the new boat??

Not to worry little grasshopper. All of my parts are being shipped to RJ next week for the rigging. I am going up in Mid march for final set up with me in the boat, setting the CG, wheel and pedal placement, etc., and then some on water testing before I head home.

New engine arrived in the mail today to replace the one that got jacked in the sale of Mission Bay.

I sure hope you mean mid-Feb for the fitting!! Mid -March might be a little behind schedule. :(
