What brand and model of CHP radar/laser detector seems to work commuting back and forth to Parker and Havasu??

I have an Escort 9500.. It works great and gives no false hits. I have this in my commuter car.

I have a $30 Cobra i radar that also works ok but gives false hits from 2014+ GM suvs, and some Audis.
I use this for going back and forth to the river.

Most will say the Valetine 1.

I have one of those and it chirps at BS radar the whole time..... Drives me nuts!

Go online and look up how to program out the X band and the K band. They are not used.. That will eliminate about 95% of false alarms! It is a huge improvement! Super easy takes about 3 minutes.. You will have laser and Ka band left operational.

If you get hit with laser, it's too late, but at least you'll know. Mine always goes off when I leave the Vidal Junction agricultural check, they must be scanning license plates.

I use Waze. It's like a 21st century CB radio without the static. Crowd sourced and very accurate. "Police Reported Ahead" and they are there within a mile or two. Never use a radar detector now.

I've always found that the amount of pressure one places on the throttle is the best radar detector available. Just being a smart ass, but it's the best way to avoid a ticket.

I have a escort 9500, two escort max 360, and I had a valentine one. The Escort max 360 is the best I have used. It has arrows like the valentine but more updated.

Belltronics 995....I’m on my second one in 9 years. First one went 5 years before it finally cooked. Have to tell ya...for the money...they pay for themselves within a couple a weeks. I drive a lot for a living and I’m a madman on the road.

I don't use a radar/laser detector but i'm boring because I drive within 5 mph of the speed limit most of the time.

I have a Solo S2, it's ancient, probably 25 years old, but in 2008, I sent it to Escort and they rebuilt it for $79. They replaced the case, the push buttons, the detector lens, the LCD display, and the circuit board. I'm not kidding, they gave me a new unit. :D

It'll pick up Ka radar on the interstate from over a mile away. There's always plenty of warning in local traffic too. It's really nice not having to dick around with wiring.

I use Energizer lithium batteries in it, they last for months.

V1 and Waze -pretty hard combo to beat.

The latest escort with networked alerts is supposed to be pretty good as well. They upload threat locations to the cloud so you effectively have "unlimited" range.

at 9 over on the freeway and 4 over in town - I dont bother with anything the man isnt looking for me he's looking for the 15+ over guy and there's plenty of them.

Other than driving the speed limit on hwy 395 , which I do , what’s the tricks to NOT getting popped for speeding on that road ? I’m talking Ridgecrest all the way to Reno , most heavily patrolled road ever !

Valentine 1...Tons of false alarms which can make you ignore the real ones. However, it works great on flat clear areas. If you are on a curvy road or an up-and-down road like between Glamis and Blythe, it doesn't work until its too late.

It's saved me at least 3 tickets.

Thats where waze or the cloud-connected escort may offer some hope.

I'm a 7 over guy on that road.

Lol, maybe you should stay in the right lane so we don’t have to pass you at 100

Lmao :)

In all seriousness as I'm getting older I realize saving a few minutes isn't worth your life, lives of your family, or someone else's.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve slowed down overall while driving.
But I used to have detectors in everything. From Bell to Cobras.
Even a cheap cobra saved me tons of tickets.

K band will still get you nailed with sheriffs and local. I never shut it off.
CHP is primarily Ka and laser.
Depending on landscape, I’ve had a $100 cobra reach out farther than a $300 bell.

Nowadays I just go 5-10 over and don’t really give a damn about a ticket or not. Someone is always going faster.

10 over is plenty for me these days especially towing - I prefer to get an hour earlier start than to drive faster than that. Stakes are too high

I dont drive fast on the street anymore - I do my speeding offroad or on the water where no one cares and I won't accidentally kill a family of 6 if I run out of talent.

The only reason I use a detector at all is because of the ludicrous 55 MPH towing speed in Cali - of you arent going at least 70 on eth freeway you are simply in everyone and everythings way. On truck or car only trips i don't bother at 9 over I'm invisible.

You guys with Valentine 1 need to be smarter than your radar detectors :D

As for laser, if you're the TARGET you're a ticket no matter what you use. But most of the time, someone else is targeted and your detector will pick it up and tell you LEO is there

Costco in N Scottsdale off of Hayden has the Escort 360 for $300. I'm still using the 9500 with their app. Works great. Most chp use KA with an occasional laser. App detects radar & later up ahead and tells you to slow down.

Valentine 1 - No more than 75 on Rice Rd or 80 on the 10. Not running overly fast, just want a fair shot at knowing where those sneaky fockers are hiding.

Same thing happens at LAX, just more Federal Agencies looking, they don’t care about speeders though, lol
