Any major issues with say 2018-2019 Ram 1500 trucks with the Hemi and 8 speed auto? I’m asking about the last generation truck not the new 2019-2020 trucks. Are they good? Are they junk? Reliability issues? How well do they tow your boats or trailers? Have a family member stuck on buying one but I know nothing about them. Always been a GM truck guy. Anything to look out for? What are some of your opinions or experiences with the Gen IV Ram 1500?

I had a 14’ Ram and drove it to 85K before I traded it. I had issues with it but they were mostly my own doing. The only real issue that I had and wasn’t my own doing was with the Uconnect system, it would take forever to turn on and sometimes it wouldn’t turn on at all. It seemed like a relay issue but the dealer said the whole thing had to be replaced and it was a pretty expensive fix. I traded it in at that point.

I’ve since traded in the vehicle that I traded the Ram for and am back in a new Ram.

The hemi is a f*cking beast. My previous Ram towed my toy hauler like nothing. The factory brake controller was terrific, I put a top of the line brake controller in my last rig and it was a POS compared to the Ram factory controller. The thing I miss most about my last Ram was the gas mileage. I could get 20mpg on the highway when I wasn’t towing and that was with 3:93’s. My new Ram can touch that and has a higher gear ratio.

Have a 16 Ram and pulls like a train. Only issue so far is the fuel fill sensor in the gas tank went out.

Exhaust manifold bolts other than that great trucks. 5.7 8speed with 3.92 gears will pull a hell of allot.

Any problems with that dial shift knob?

I don’t mind it. It’s definitely a little weird getting used to it but I haven’t had any issues.

The shifter is a big reason I ended up with another Ram. I really liked the F150 but hated the big ass bulky shifter in between the two front seats.

I never thought about parts in the long run.

Had a 2016, it had the exhaust bolt issue but it was covered under warranty. I loved that truck, 5.7 CC, Sport, 4x4.

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with Hemi . 48k miles , only replaced rear window slider switch . I have factory air suspension, amazing ! All the manufacturers suffer from broken exhaust bolts , mine are still ok . I have 3.90 ratio gears , with ZF 8 speed , pulls my boat ( about 8k ) just fine .
