Hi all--searched the thread but couldn't zero in on this. I have a Howard v-drive that's currently fresh water cooled. Has aluminum heads. I run in fresh water only, and was thinking about ditching the heat exchanger, and going back to raw water cooling. Anybody have any opinion about this, especially given I'm running aluminum heads? The boat lives either on a lift or its trailer so never stays in the water for long (e.g. I'm not worried about electrolysis). Internal water temps are 180-210 with the heat exchanger and I know it will drop down to probably 160 with raw water. 160 would be better for the forged pistons imho. Any thoughts?
