So I was thinking last night of doing a shirt different than just a normal “boat” shirt. I was thinking of doing a “Evolution of Boating” shirt.

Starting with the old outboard ski boats and v drives of the 60’s. (Pics)

Then moving onto the more modern flats / shovel nose?

Then the invention of the Eliminator Daytona

Moving onto day cruisers

Moving onto larger Vee’s and Cats

Then finishing it up with ?? I was thinking a twin outboard cat and twin outboard toon. Or maybe replace the toon with a center console?

What are the members thoughts on the evolution of boating. Which boats would you use and along what timelines?

1960’s - (image) flat bottom / outboard (image)
1970’s - etc etc
1980’s
1990’s
2000’s
2010’s
2020’s

Also if you have images of what you think fits whatever era please post them up with the era you are thinking!

My take on the era correct boats, maybe use jet with over the transom headers with the bitchin color fade gel used back then. See pic
IMO, the 1990s could be open bow with the teal, pink, etc colors used then. See pic

I think it's a great idea, always looking for boating shirts. I think you'd have to make it a series of shirts which may lead to lots of inventory among the various sizes and styles. If you make them they will sell! LOL

Why don't you just start with a $ for he 60's? For the 70's have two $$. For the 80's have three $$$. For the 90's have four $$$$. And so on and so on. Add another $ for each decade. Boom! An evolution of boating shirt! 👍

Evolution of Boating? Or Evolution of "Performance" boating? Sounds like a hodge podge of this and that....

Wouldn’t be enough room on the shirts for the dollar signs in 2022. Lol

It’s performance boating.. reality of it is Jerry twin rig pontoons are in demand right now from the same guys that ran flats in the days of ole. Lol

To get all that on one shirt seems like the images would be too small and it would just look like a shirt with a mishmash of colors, I don’t know, maybe come up with some concept drawings and present to the inmates for judgment.🤔 on second thought that might not go so well.😂

It’s hard to convey an image in my head in text..

Maybe the Lavey Craft 2750 NuEra to the 28 EVO.
Lavey chose the name Evo to literally mean Evolution from the NuEra.
Although I’m not sure how to make that into a cool shirt.

I liked the idea but you honestly lost me when you threw in the pontoons. 🙄

Maybe work on a few different shirts. Put two or three boats on each and keep the powertrains and hull designs consistent. One shirt for the v-drive guys, one for the flatbottoms and one for the outboard folks.

If you do a shirt with pontoons, you could just sell them to the residents of Leisure World. 🤣

Yes on the large engine flats. But, the 18’ Tahiti type boats jet, O/B or I/O far out numbered them, by a bunch. Those Tahiti etc boats were the first boat for many of the west coast boaters.

Nothing has changed other than length. Still running outboards, vdrives, jets, and inboards, airboats,

Maybe a top speed for each decade. 🤔

I take it you are thinking of keeping the boats used on the shirt to be of actual west coast manufacture, not just west coast style? (not a donzi sweet 16 for instance)

could be cool....

Would skip the center consoles and toons. Nothing wrong with either but i don't think it will look good on the shirt.

End with a newer cat with outboards.

I was thinking an m37 with twin 450’s

So if you want the evolution of how many started going to the river, a lot of San Diegans started boating in Mission Bay and were more or less pushed out towards the river. At least that's the way my dad explained it.

The Daytona in the second photo was a very early one...and may be the first V-drive Daytona as there was no center keel. My dad sank it and Bob Leach, best guy in the boating industry, gave my dad another, but it was a jet.

Photo #1 is approximately 1979,
Daytona Photo #2 is approximately 1976,
Photo #3 is approximately 1980
Photo #4 where the Colorado river was extremely high was either 1983 or 1984

28 evo is one of my favorite boats.

Problem is they didn’t sell enough boats as a whole to be a recognizable icon.l of the era.

Before I’m dead though you guys are gonna build me a 28 evo with 800’ish

yep...

Maybe start with a wood deck schiada flat and work towards current. Gotta throw in some 70's jet boat flavor and then a mid 90's 21' ultra open bow , 25 cole or hallett, magic deck

I hope this shirt doesn't portray the evolution of Performance boats into deck and pontoon luxury boats.

It would be tough to show evolution in the performance boating world considering the boats at the top of the performance ladder haven't evolved much. The worlds fastest boat, to the quickest TFH's and even the ULH's haven't evolved all that much over the decades.

If you wanna show the evolution of west coast creature comfort boating (which seems to be the case) here's a visual. :)

It’s weird to think that’s where it went but that’s where it went.

Almost every high dollar guy I know that had had all the bad ass shit now owns either a twin rig toon Or a CC.

That said if ya can help with pics either side or 1/4 profile (isometric) of some various decades in your opinion it would be greatly appreciated
