...I just talkedto CAL Fire and the gentleman that I spoke with told me that they will be sending a crew tomorrow... up into Berry Creek where my property is ...to assess the damage... so as of yet I know nothing...
... A friend in Chico has been watching the news channels and has indicated that pretty much all of Berry Creek and surrounding areas are gone...
...My friend being in Chico is on standby for evacuation...He said an ember landed on the shake roof of the house next door to him and burned it to the ground...Ouch!!!...

WE have VERY good friends in Chico also and today got word they are on standby also. They live somewhat outside the city to the N.E. on the edge of a canyon, very beautiful and expensive place. Wife got the feeling they're getting sick of all the fires up that way especially that Paradise fire a couple years back. That turned Chico into a tent city.

...I just talked to Cal fire again 3PM Fri 9/11 and they had sent a damage assessment team up into Berry Creek today but the fire flared up again and drove them back out ...so their next plan is to send the damage assessment team up tomorrow ...I think it’s something like 10 confirmed dead and possibly 16 still missing in the Berry Creek and surrounding areas...Things are looking pretty grim...

I hope he has good news for you Willie.
We just got home from Oroville, went up to Wagon Wheel to pick up our 1/2 beef and the pig we had them do. Talked to a couple of CDF guys who were getting sandwiches. They looked wiped out, but determined. The smoke is crazy, from here at our place near Grass Valley all the way up there, headlights and fog lights on. The gal at wagon wheel said some of the local shops were open trying to sell lunches, we just bought sandwiches from them. I love that store. Those people are awesome, and their butcher shop is second to none.
We are staying loaded and hooked up for the foreseeable future. Going to be a long fire season.

...Well thank you very much for the well wishes I still do not know if JayBreww posting the overhead of my property means my property has been spared...or that the pic is an earlier satellite shot???...Waiting on a PM reply from him but hopefully I am not at the top of his list of things to do ...I can live without my stuff...
...I know the Wagon Wheel well... I was under the impression that the whole area down by the Wagon Wheel was under evacuation orders???...

Wagon wheel was open, so were most of the businesses in the area, RV park down by casino was over half full. The lady that checked us out thanked us for driving up on such a crappy day to pick up the meat told us about other local sandwich places and such re-opening, we had already ordered our lunch from their deli counter. Businesses on Oro Dam Blvd up to the turn off up to WW appeared open as well.
The short cut via Marysville Rd from 20 to Oroville is still closed due to evacuation on the Yuba Co fires so we came up 70. Wish I had more info for you.

@Willie B how did everything turn out?
...Well my friend...it looks like I am burnt to the ground ...Now comes the hassle with insurance Companies...Farmers has bought Foremost who insured my motorhome...Farmers bought out 21st-century who insured my two Mercedes and my Blazer... Allstate at first indicated that they had no record of ensuring my Lance 990 camper that was up there... Ace insurance I Believe is who insured my Hallett flat bottom with the 406... I have filed a claim with them and I have heard from their adjuster once...My 21’ Omega Daycruiser was not insured along with a bunch of other stuff...I have been down this road before it’s going to be a complete cluster fuck...I am not in the mood or In good enough health to deal with all this but I guess I’m gonna have try and pull it together...(I got a new neurologist who seems pretty good???...he gave me a new drug but I’m not too sure it was intended to make my head feel like it’s spinning around in circles all the time)???...
...Anybody had any experience dealing with Farmers... I have never dealt with them before so any heads up on dealing with them would be greatly appreciated...

... The little red cabin Icon on top of my stuff means it has burned...I don’t know how any of my stuff could have survived up there it was very thick forest???.,,

Willie...no words man...no words.
The couple that bought the place next to me lost everything but their lives, their dog, and the Kubota tractor that was in a field away from the house in the Paradise Fire (Camp Fire) 45 years they had been there. They are out of town now but when they get back I can go over and ask him for some tips on their dealings.
Also...my wife is a office manager for another national insurance company, been in the business 30 years. If you have any specific quesitons you want her perspective on let me know. I've been watching the 747 and Dc-10 tankers flying out of McClellan up to that fire all week. It looks to me they are pretty dang close to Forbestown now.
So very sorry.

Start putting together any pictures you may have of your personal property that was up there, get a yellow legal pad and keep it handy as you think of things write them down. I know, from what she has told me, that keeping pics of your stuff is a good idea, and that they will want an itemized list of all personal property as best you can put together. I think you are probably going to have to make at least one trip up there.

...Wow... Thank you very much... your words are healing and I am lost... I don’t do my best thinking at my home in North Hollywood so right now I’m sitting at the top of Kagel Canyon trying to think my way through this...
...I have been keeping detailed notes from the beginning... I’ve already lost one notepad but there wasn’t anything on it that caused a problem so I’ve started over...
... As far as photos I hsve sent pics to all the appropriate insurance people... fortunately I took detailed photos of the elaborate solar power system that I built into my old motorhome... but I am really getting an odd vibe from the adjuster from Farmers...who complimented me on the very old photos and she said it with a twist in her voice... I’ve been down this road before and I think it’s probably time to request a new person from Farmers because all this adjuster talked about was the floods in Houston???... She really knew nothing of Berry Creek and when I realized that I was doing research that was really her job ...I had someone from claims contact her supervisor requesting another insurance adjuster preferably one on the West Coast so we are using the same clock ...the one I’ve been dealing with was in Kansas City and by text she mentioned several times what a problem our time differences could be???..,so I’m thinking an adjuster on the West Coast would be a much better idea...
... I really hope I don’t have to make a trip up there I don’t think my old beat up body could take the 435 mile drive ...if it does come to that I would probably have to fly into Sacramento and rent a car...
...sheesh...what next???...

"what next"...I know what you mean. One of the reasons we are moving is I am getting to old to live packed up for evac 5 months out of the year, it is hell on the soul. Like you, even packed up we will lose irreplaceable family memories and treasures...I am sitting next to the big console radio my Mom heard FDR's "Day of Infamy" speech. How the hell do you replace that?
I am sure the list will come to you, heck even ask friends who were at your place for things they remember, might help you trigger memories of things you had there that your forgot you had.

Let me know if I can help somehow

Dam Willie. Can't imagine. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Throughout the years I've worked with several insurances dealing with fire and floods for rebuild at work. It definitely comes down to the adjuster you're working with, on how the claim is handled.

In my humblest of opinions maybe look into hiring a private adjuster to fight this battle for you? I don't have any to personally recommend but maybe someone on the forum does?

Really sorry to hear willie. I know there are a lot of people on rdp who have been through this or work in the insurance industry I would ask for help if the insurance company gets difficult. I wish I could do more to help.

...Thank you for the advice ... hopefully it doesn’t come to that but you never know ...one of my good friends is a retired lawyer/superior court judge ...So I’ve kind of got him looking over my shoulder... he wants me to keep him posted so when I start screwing things up hopefully he can redirect me... He’s never been in the insurance business but it sounds like he’s represented and ruled on a few Insurance cases...

...In speaking with the phone rep for the Butte County sheriffs department today... it sounds like it’s going to be a while before the insurance companies claims people will be allowed in... no clue what awhile might be???...

Hi Willie, I am very sorry to hear of your losses. It must have been a beautiful place before the fire.
Maybe some of the Flat bottom parts can be saved, engine, V-drive etc.
Good luck with the insurance companies.

Glad you got someone to look over your shoulder on this or at least bounce ideas off of.

For work I've done it but ways, rebuild after major floods with an independent private adjuster and without. The main difference is the PA usually gets 10% of the claim so they push hard to make sure you get everything you deserve and they know how to argue if something doesn't add up. Without one sometimes it can smooth if the are not change orders and if they are a decent insurance company with good reps.

Last night the North Complex Fire in Butte and Yuba Counties jumped containment and the town of Paradise is once again under an evacuation warning, along with several other small communities that are under Evac orders.
Paradise.
Those poor people. I know of a couple who have already rebuilt, and now they may be living the nightmare all over again.
As you go about your day, hold a kind thought for our RDP family member Willie and all the other RDP'ers who have been through this horror over the years in communities all over the state.
Fire in Sonoma Co, (Santa Clara area) went from 1100 acres to 25,000 acres overnight.
Shasta county has one going as well...the Zogg fire, now 7000 acres.
PG&E has shut down power to a big chunk of Nevada, Placer, and Eldorado Counties in another CYA power shut off.
Red Flag warning up again almost all of NorCal.

I will be hooking the 5th wheel up again today, will have the rig ready to go for the next week two. Gut is telling me I should load some of the other things in the trailer too. I may.
Generators ready if PGE shuts us down.
What us folks up here wouldn't give for a good soaking rain about now.
This is no longer a place I want to live.

Those areas are so beautiful, but these kinds of fire events sure makes the price for living there be known.

... Once again thank you for your kind words... I got a midnight call from Chico last night saying that either Paradise was under evacuation orders or close to it and that the way the winds were blowing Paradise could very well be in trouble again ...as of yet today I have not checked

... i’m starting to get pretty good communication with farmers insurance... I still don’t know whether they are actually going to get somebody to go up and look at my losses or they’re just going to use something like the NADA price guide???..,
...Last I heard this morning from my claims manager was they are working on the mileage of the vehicles I lost which at this point I don’t really know how they’re going to do that if the Vehicles are are burnt to a crisp???...Most likely an alogrythym of some sort???

an outfit called “we go look” is slated to go up and take photos of the remnants of at least my motorhome...I have left instructions for the claims manager to have these people call me before they attempt to go take pictures ...otherwise I don’t think they will ever find it...motorhome was insured for a stated value because of the solar power system ...it looks like I should’ve raised the coverage on it over the years ...it also had some contents insurance so that will help..,

... in looking at comps for my two Mercedes and the K 5 Blazer I was a little shocked at what they’re getting for K5 Blazer ‘s these days... I don’t think farmers is going to want to pay off .high dollar on mine ...also I found one or two comps that are really high on the two Mercedes 300SD’s...I don’t think farmers is going to go for that either???..,I am not really sure how the insurance game works these days whether it’s just a negotiation process or actual set rules???..

... if you should happen to find a great place to move to please give me a heads up ...I have to be relatively close to neurologists etc....Here in North Hollywood on the mend I don’t think I’m in any danger of wildfires ...but I would rather live the somewheat risky life in the Semi rurals than here in a neighborhood in North Hollywood..
