Here's what I've been up to lately.

Got rid of the carpet in the living and family room. New paint and moulding. Here's the living room:

Nice. I hate carpet!

Our house is all hardwood floors as well. So much more cleaner that way. Good move. :thumbsup

switching to hardwood floors is one of the best projects. sooo easy to do and such a huge payoff when you're done. did u do quarter round around the edges or did you mess with baseboards?

how hard would it be to hide that power cord dangling on the cieling up into the attic?

eh when i did mine i wasnt about to remove all my baseboards and move em down 1/4" and repaint. that wouldve been soooooo much more work.

Its actually not that much work... pulling the base makes the floor install so much easier. On the plus side you can also replace it at the same time.

Very nice!...My spring project:thumbsup
I currently have a yellow pine floor and the wife wants to change the wood and the direction of the boards.
Besides the obvious what does the plastic underneath do?

All new bseboards, throughout.

Not much room in the attic/crawl space. There wasn't a fixture there, so the easiest way to run power when I put the ceiling fan up was to run the swag. It's plugged into a switched outlet.

Concrete has a tendancy to wick moisture up from the ground. Even out here, the minute amount of moisture in constant contact with the wood/laminate floor can cause warpage and distortion. Also needed if you're laying it on top other flooring (vinyl tile) laid on conrcete.

The plastic (6mil) underlayment acts as a moisture barrier. Plus, the manufacturer requires it for warranty purposes. :p

Beautiful work Boat Cop, is that a bloodhound you use at work? :D

He's the son of the Bloodhound I used at work for Search & Rescue. His mother had 3 "finds" in her career. I was going to train Sampson, couldn't find the time for him and me to do it. My wife turned him into a pet.

Nah. I pretty much did it myself, with the Mrs. laying out the boards and other misc stuff. No way I'd do this more than I absolutely had to. My back and legs are still hurting 2 weeks later.

I was going to tackle 400 sq feet but ended up finding an installer that sold the product combined for a price I couldn't beat. I helped him a little and it goes pretty fast with the right tools.
