My wife and her friends are having a girls weekend Aug. 6 they are looking to rent a pontoon type boat with a captain to visit Roadrunner, Foxes, and check out the river.......Does anyone know of anybody in Parker.

If not....is there a water taxi in service still that will take you to the bars?

Thanks!

Short answer.

Boat driver must have a Coast Guard License. Full Blown Master's License, and current Coast Guard Certification and inspection for the boat, if over 6 passengers.

A Coast Guard "Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel" (OUPV or "six-pac") License if 6 passengers or less.

Not sure who, if anyone's doing it now.

If a boat trip is a must-do, maybe if the Dixie Bell in Havasu is running, they can hop on with them. Or ride back and forth to Havasu Landing.

Then there's always Laughlin and the Casino Water Taxis (Free), or one of the River Charters.

Here in SoFlo, if you get caught running a charter without a “valid“ Captains license (absolutely must be member of a consortium), it’s now a $57,000 fine. They raised it from 50k, last year. That’s from the Coast Guard. You might get lucky from local enforcement in Parker/Havasu, but your charter is over. Drinking while running an illegal charter........ that has severe consequences!

These fines stem from this incident....... I am too lazy to look it up, so key search words are......

“Miami Vice” name of vessel
“90 ft or 90’“ length of yacht
”passenger killed” illegal charter” “captain arrested”
Miami or Biscane Bay

You will find it!

No different than a Limo Service, tour bus, or Cab Driver.

When you take on passengers for hire, you have to ensure the safety of the Vessel, competence and training of the driver/crew.

There's no laws regarding commercial or passenger for hire operation in AZ, or in CA for the River, to my Knowledge. All they can do is observe and report.

I once investigated a minor collision between the Sundance Boat and a ski-boat at Red Rock. Sundance was dropping off passengers and bumped into the ski-boat, anchored by the beach. Minor scratches. Sent my report to the Coast Guard (Sundance operator was non-licensed, vessel inspection expired, numerous other safety equipment violations.

Sundance got fined about $20,000. Two weeks later, I assisted Coast Guard investigators, who posed as customers. I dropped them off in civies at Big Bend and Buckskin Docks, and they waited (with about a dozen other people) for the Sundance Boat to pick them up and take them to the Bar. Not sure what they were fined for that one, but they never picked up passengers again. I believe that their license and certifications were permanently revoked,

So a drunken asshole can rent a pontoon boat with 12 of his friends and shuttle them around but a responsible boat owner gets a couple bucks for gas and some drinks to assist someone and they get fucked over by some BS laws. Makes about as much sense as the CA boaters license.

That’s one way of looking at it.. I see it differently, a captain is a serious job with serious ramifications if not taken seriously or with experience.

Somehow people are skirting these laws @BoatCop there is a New website that offers captained boat rentals with no captains licenses

Believe it or not..... there is actually a technical loophole that allows this to happen. As a public service to my fellow boaters, I won’t explain how the work around works. I’d hate to see others take advantage of what is basically fraud, since the loophole only works off of a particular lie that all parties are aware of, that is far from true.

Its a lot different then this debacle . 2 trips with boat at full capacity taking people up towards the dam to float down . But they have a license so maybe they can run your group around too !

I hope they don’t have more than 6 passengers because that boat does not look like an inspected vessel. (COI)

However, there is a loophole for this too....... If the owner of that pontoon boat wants to legally take more than 6 passengers, all he has to do is rent the entire boat to the group, then give that group a choice of captains, they choose the obvious captain...... now it’s all legal. It’s called the Bareboat Exemption. Must have paperwork to back up the scenario I listed.

Both of these similar threads kind of amaze me.

Parker is a really friendly place... I have no doubt that a group of females (especially without any swinging dicks tagging along) would have no problem making friends and getting somebody to take them on a tour of the river. Even if some or all of the girls are taken, I'm sure somebody would still hook them up. Depending on where they're staying, either start at Roadrunner or Foxs, then go from there.

It's not like they would be asking somebody to go out of their way, literally the only thing to do on a boat in Parker is go bar hopping or go from Dam to Dam, or just float and relax.

If you want to pay the captain, stop advertising it and give him a C note after the tour. Or just make new friends and enjoy the time there.

Correct me if I’m wrong….if no money changes hands, this is all 100% above water…right? I believe the key words in all the rules are “for hire”

It would not be hard to make the case to a judge that one decided to spend the day with a boat full of girls free of charge. Perk here…the “captain” can also have a few drinks…since he’s not a captain but just the guy driving the boat.

There actually is a taxi tour type service starting up in Havasu, it's in it's infancy and being promoted by the city. I don't really know who you contact, maybe the city direct. I actually talked to one of the drivers a few weeks ago and there was an article in the News Herald.

Rest assured it went sideways due to liability reasons(no one offering). Then the brigade of goofy comments about not wanting to drive around a boatful of pretty women all day fired up.
Post 18 above Dave posted up a possibility & ph#.
Hope your wife & friends find a solution and have a great time.👍

How many of them? Also, are they very specific about checking out those bars? If there's only like 4-5 of them I'd just rent a place in Parker on the water and make friends with the neighbors and/or uber to the bars and go from there, and get a free boat ride I'm sure at some point in the weekend. If not no biggie hang out on the water and rent 2 jetskis for some water fun

As an fyi.... I've got a captain friend working on this one, and others that I'll be renting this summer when friends in town. She's got tonnage license for sure though.

There was a "boat captain" service displaying at the 2021 Havasu Boat Show -- HavaCAptain, John Walthall, 916-247-5167, I know he is Coast Guard licensed, not sure what level of certification. You might want to give him a call. Good luck.

They should all pitch in and buy a boat. Get the owner to train them and assist. Then flip it lol
