First time boat owner, looking to DYI replace decking. Could use some advice and help:
1. The chairs are bolted it appears that I would have to remove the slash guard which are riveted on s there an alternative ay to remove bolts?
2. My local lumber yard only carries 8’x4’ sheets of plywood, my deck is 8’5” by 27’, suggestions on best way to stager layout.
3. Would like to replace carpet with “composite material’, looking for retailer that will sale to public.

Thanks fo the help and info

Have you pulled the carpet up yet? You sure the actual deck boards are 8'5"? I'm guessing they are 8' and there's some edging to help hold them down or something.

When you do your new material on top make sure it can "breathe" or you are gonna suffer wood rot even faster!

I think the first steps would be to get it apart, and then start figuring out how to solve the problems as it goes back together.

The splash guard it looks like you will have to drill the heads off the rivets to get it off.

I'd use bolts with silicone when putting it back together.

Thanks for your input!
So the last photo is a sample of the materail, I plan to use. I believe it’s “breathable“
It’s some sort of composite material (not vinyl) with felt type backing. I was suggested by one of the local shops I received a quote from.
I am not sure of the manufacturer and I am hesitant to go back and ask the shop owner?
Hoping someone hear will be familiar with it?

Look up Fiber Tech Industries. My last two pontoon re decks, I ordered an 8'6" wide by 26 ' long sheet of 5/8" plywood that is covered in fiberglass on both sides. You commonly see it on the sides of semi truck trailers. Makes the job easier and it is one large sheer panel when bolted down. Stiffens the whole boat up.

If you take off the aluminum panel that runs on the along the sides, you can access the nuts for the seating . I had to make a wrench that was long enough to reach and it's a 2 person job, you do not have to remove the belly to do this, I will say its time consuming and tight but can be done and there is a lot to remove . You can order 10' sheets of marine grade plywood from a lumber yard or maybe online.

I’m in the last steps of putting together my 2011 play craft back together for the same thing. I didn’t replace the decking though just new vinyl floor. Took the run rails in for new powder coat. You’ll need to remove the shield underneath to get to some of the bolts and push wiring down and back up. When you’re that far do yourself a favor and replace all the plastic sealing washers. My toons were leaking manufacture told me to check those first and many were rotted away. They said that happens in the desert heat but not so much on Missouri. I had a few cracks on the seems too. Manufacturer also recommended I replace my fuel fill line and I’m glad I did when I got it out was badly cracked and looks like it would’ve started leaking soon.

The plastic sealing washers I’m talking about are for the bolts that go through the flange of the pontoon and holds it to the cross member channel, if you put a TINY bit of air pressure to it (like 1 pound) you’ll probably hear and feel air blowing out around all those bolts.

I used the same flooring

here is the thread. Mine was done by a shop as I didn’t have the time to DIY it.
