We had to put down our dog last night. He had cancer but was doing good, all things considered.
He had a good day until about 4pm, when he started regurgitating blood. He did this a few times and then he just laid down and wouldn't move.
We took him to the emergency vet and when we pulled into the parking lot, he did it again. This time he just laid in it. You could tell he was in pain.
The vet placed him in critical care and got him mostly stable. However, he lost a bunch of blood. The vet gave us an option of leaving him there in ICU but she wasn't confident about his survival and told us they supported humane euthanasia if we wanted to go that route.
After a couple phone calls and shedded tears, we made the decision to have him put down. They allowed us to sit in a private room and hold him while they administered the shots. He went immediately. I think he was just ready :(
He truly was a special dog and an integral part of our family. He will be missed!
We love you, Buddy!

For those who will be forced into making these decision in the future there are companies
who will come to your home so you can have a personal goodbye and peaceful put down.
Never easy no matter how you did it. I believe we used a place called Peaceful Pets.

Sorry for your loss. This winter has really been hell for us pet owners.
............and that rainbow ridge poem just messed me up, now I can't leave my construction trailer until my eyes stop tearing and are no longer red.

So so so very loss for your loss. It’s never ever easy and our pets are part of the family.

I just lost my cat of 17 years on the 2nd. We took her with us to Havasu for New Years and then we came home and she had a heart attack in my arms. Worst thing to ever experience in my life.

Anyways, your doggy was adorable and I’m so incredibly sorry. It’s just awful they aren’t here as long as we are. Our animals fight to stay here to be with us when they start getting older and having issues.

I am sorry for your loss.

I have a 14 to 15-year-old epileptic beagle who is slowing down. Every week is different, one week we think it’s time to put him down and the next week he peps back up. We know the time is coming soon.
