We had to put down our dog last night. He had cancer but was doing good, all things considered.
He had a good day until about 4pm, when he started regurgitating blood. He did this a few times and then he just laid down and wouldn't move.
We took him to the emergency vet and when we pulled into the parking lot, he did it again. This time he just laid in it. You could tell he was in pain.
The vet placed him in critical care and got him mostly stable. However, he lost a bunch of blood. The vet gave us an option of leaving him there in ICU but she wasn't confident about his survival and told us they supported humane euthanasia if we wanted to go that route.
After a couple phone calls and shedded tears, we made the decision to have him put down. They allowed us to sit in a private room and hold him while they administered the shots. He went immediately. I think he was just ready
He truly was a special dog and an integral part of our family. He will be missed!
We love you, Buddy!
