Robert Hight knows how to make a fast statement.

Just consider his blast Friday night during qualifying for the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway.

"When you have Jimmy Prock as your crew chief, he tries to get everything he can out of that race track," Hight said. "When I lifted at the other end of the track, I knew it was fast, and quick."

Hight got a pleasant surprise when he saw his time.

"I saw the 3.80, but I didn't know it went 339 - almost 340 until they told me on the radio," High said.

That run of 3.807 seconds at 339.87 mph in the night qualifying session soon became the rage of the NHRA world and social media. It was the third quickest in history, while the speed was the fastest in the history of the NHRA.

Earlier in the day, Hight struggled badly with a run of 4.507 at 184.62

"When you mess up the first run and don't go down the track, you would think you'd put a baseline setup in the car," Hight said.

Of course, Prock is one of the top masterminds in the sport and he cooked up a formula for serious speed.

"That was an awesome run for us," Prock said. "You know, this place is great. We're in California. The air comes in at night, and these things make some power."

In his post-race press conference, Hight attempted to explain the sensation of nearly reaching the magical 340 mph mark.

"These things will run 340 mph, we know they can do it," Hight said. "When you can say you ran the fastest speed in NHRA history, that's pretty awesome. And Sonoma Raceway can say it happened here. This thing was singing down there. It's hard to explain to everybody, but it's the coolest noise when you hear that nitro engine running up that kind of rpm."

The "Prock Rocket" has set the top seed in eight events since returning to the Hight team in March while Hight has recorded nine of his fastest 10 career runs.

Hight, who has 51 career poles, earned the provisional No. 1 qualifying spot. He's now looking to back up his recent win at Denver.

Jack Beckman ran a 3.854 at 328.70 to earn the No. 2 spot with Courtney Force at No. 3 after a run of 3.889 at 327.03 in her Advance Auto Parts Chevy Camaro.

I saw that. Hope you guys had a good time. Sorry we had to leave and couldn't visit longer. [emoji846]

Had a great time!
3rd round was a marathon. Even the pro stocks had hell.
Took 2 1/2 hours to get through. But Q4 delivered!

3 bikes went 199+ in round 1.

Matt Smith went 199.88.

Will the 200 mark fall today?

Courtney will have to rely on the fan vote/lottery now for the shootout. There will be a guaranteed winner for the 7th spot, either Wilk or Todd.

I seriously thought that they were going to hit 200 for a moment. Maybe Seattle?

I wanted Tim to win so bad after the carnage from last week. It's good that J.R. got it though. He was talking about how they were turning the corner and it was coming together.

X2, I love ole Wilk also! After he ruined or had to repair 2 Chassis's I too was hoping he would win to offset the damages last week and he would have notched a spot in the shootout.

Oh yea. He had a chassis at the shop getting front halfed. When he tanked both cars last weekend in Denver, he called the shop and had them haul ass on finishing up the front half on the other chassis. They loaded it on a truck on Tuesday, it got to the track on Thursday and his guys hauled ass on building it.

A huge hurdle to overcome. [emoji106]

Damn right.
Fuck that arrogant fucker. He told us we would never have a chance.
Stevo and Antron are best friends but kicking SCHUMACHER's ass has been fun!
Also glad to see JR Todd get a win. He is also a hard working great guy!

Torrence is on a fucking mission, no doubt about it. He is driving at his highest level ever and is demanding nothing less from his crew.
He's always been a threat just through his commitment to achieve...but this year it's at a WHOLE 'nother level!

Best moment of eliminations was seeing the Don prematurely pumping his fist in victory during FC semis...right up until JR Todd peddled it past Beckman at 280 MPH! That was easily the most significant pass of the day for me, as it led to a Wally for Todd!

That was the best race all day. I can't believe how hard his car launches when he hit it the second time.

That J.R. Todd run was down right awesome. I was screaming at the tv when he blew past for the win

Another great weekend with great people. Kids were part of the jr display and made exhibition runs on Sunday before the finals. Helped crew Melissa Surber and we thought we had a chance to go some rounds, but racing happens.
