Theyve been around for a bit. Pulse jets were the propulsion for Nazi Germanys V1 rocket, the very first cruise missile.

That guys cool. My brother made one to take to the desert. Loud as fok.
The basic pulse jet without doors kind of works on the principle that a 2 stroke expansion chamber does.
Combustion chamber with long and short tubes. Goes bang. Pulse goes out both tubes. Short tube clears. Long tube still has pulse moving out that draws new air in the short tube. Gets afr then goes bang again.

Then my son says, "Would it be possible to use a car's exhaust, with fuel and and ignitor to build a kind of ramjet?"
