But he was OBTUSE.
GF's daughter looking for a new car this past weekend. I couldn't let her fend for herself with the dealers....so I got involved
She wants a compact SUV, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Subi Crosstrek, Hyundai Kona, etc. She's not high maintenance just wants a new car and can afford it. Works for casino and has 803 credit. Has a '14 FIat 500L clear title and 75K miles. Clean. CarHax offers her $6600. We go to Henderson Hyundai and test drive Kona. Not interested. It had cheap plastic feel interior. We go over to Honda and she test drive HR-V. She loves it. She wants BLACK on BLACK ONLY. WTF??? You live in Vegas your money, OK, fine. Turns out they have the only BLACK HR-V in the valley out of 4 Honda dealers with EX-L trim level. It's Saturday at 7pm and the Honda sales hack wants this deal on his monthly sales. I get that. The Hyundai sales guy was kool and I was too relaxed when we showed up at Honda. This guy was ALL the things shitty a car sales person is. Every question we ask he kept saying before he answered, "I'm not trying to be OBTUSE".
Well he brought out the one sheet form with #s and first offer was MSRP with $499 doc fee and $398 payment for 72 months @ 1.99%. (he never ask about the trade in) we just told him $6600 down. He just wanted ink on the contract. Liz (the buyer) says I don't want to be over $340. That poured gas on salesguys high pressure sales pitch. He goes to finance area, comes back and says if I get you this deal I need a signature on this offer worksheet and 3 referrals for my sales trainee, who had little involvement in the deal. When he lays the paper down, his hand is covering the entire paper except where he wrote $356 a month. I said let me check that out and I grabbed the paper. I said is this the for the same car???? That sent him into orbit. He went on and on about that and started berating me to the point I couldn't figure out what changed on the offer other than the payment. The numbers didn't add up. There were no add ons for etching, spraying the interior, etc. or other bullshit.
I told him, you know, this sounds like a deal under pressure and we need to discuss it. It's after 8 pm already and she has to work tomorrow. We don't want to be here to 10pm. She likes the car. We can come back Monday (new car dealers are closed on Sunday in Vegas). He came unglued. We got up and left. It was a shitty meeting. Liz trusts me and said if I (talking about me) say its time to go its time to go. She wanted the car. Told her she will get the car she wants. FYI the Hyundai dealer had all window stickers include a $3,999 market adjustment fee added to the sales price. Honda did not.
I went online and searched for Black HR-V in Vegas. Only one. I went to Costco auto buying service. They assigned me Honda dealer in Centennial Hills. Same owner as Henderson. Costco says she can save $1100 off of MSRP. Yesterday I called internet guy in Centennial and told him I wanted the car in Henderson. 2 hours later he had the car. I verified the VIN. Turns out the 1.99% financing is either or $1000 rebate. Told him we would be there before noon with a check. I told Liz to go to the credit union and join and apply for a loan first thing yesterday. 2 hours later she had a check. 2 hours after that she had the car, clean and full of gas. Credit union was 2.49%. Still better with the $1000 rebate. Payment $304 and they matched the CarHax offer but they didn't want to. LOL. Guy was bitching about CarHax over paying for used cars. Whatever.
Fuck Honda in Henderson.
