Wife finally got some time off from work. At the last minute we couldn’t book Moab nor Sedona and friends say both locations dry camping were slammed like a festival.

So we headed to Lake Pleasant.

North of the lake has excellent staging and camping. The turnouts along Castle creek rd have been fenced off so ya pretty much have to use the staging area at Cow Creek.

Day one we hit some technical trails. Then for lunch we rolled to Scorpion Bay.
Funicular takes you down to the docks and covered slips:

Good food and service at the dog friendly Scorpion Bay grille:

Glad you enjoyed it! Never been off roading back there; did you camp close to the water?

That grille is the jam especially since there’s always boat parking right outside the patio. They make a killer Bloody Mary too 👌

Next time we’ll book a spot at one of the RV parks but they were booked up this trip. Nice.

For now we’re in the Bradshaw BLM dispersed area. All the cool roadside pullouts have been blocked with fencing, ditches and berms.

Crown King Saloon no longer allows dogs so we hit Dillons and Scorpion Bay where dogs are welcome and part of the theme.

Cleator bar is more of a guys trip kinda stop over so we rolled past there too.

In the high 80’s low 90s and a cool onshore breeze is keeping the camping area nice.

We did the backside to Crown King today. The 4 seat X3 Max climbed the technicals with ease.
Really impressed with it.

So now we’ve checked off to & from the back entrance off the bucket list.
Wife loves rock crawling. The tougher the better.

When we returned to camp we looked back up there and saw this:

Helicopters staged about a par 3 away from us now and camping closed north of us.
We may have to pack up and roll.

how is your truck doing any other problems? What was the fix?

computer gremlin?

Yeah it's great now.
A message pop'd up on the dash screen telling us to press the start icon and exit the truck an it'll begin 12 minute download.
Straightened out and eliminated all the mulligans, increased the fuel mileage, cut way, way back on the DEF use and a more than noticeable increase in power. No more smelling the DEF burning during regens as it threw codes and defaulted into limp mode.

But, we just arrived home and it's been about a year now and paperwork came in the mail, it's going to court.
I go to sell this truck or trade it in it has a shop history and who knows how that will effect the resale value.
It's a new era.

Dillions is cool they welcome dogs.

True incident, on the level this happened last week on our way back from Crown King:

We called ahead to the Anthem Roadrunner, not the Parker Roadrunner this is the non-affiliated bar n Grill in Anthem: "Yeah bring your dog in!"
So we roll into the the the Anthem Roadrunner in the X3 MAX. The wife is wearing her sunglasses and a cleaning lady scarf around her head and the dog has a harness.
She walks into to bar and looks like Hollywood's version of a blind lady with a guide dog.
Immediately 3 employees run up to her and say "Guide dogs are not allowed" and escorted us out.

I kid you not that happened last week.

Sounds like a great way to get an ADA lawsuit on their part 🤷‍♂️

We eventually did the Maggie mine/gas/power line trail to Cleator and the saloon was dog friendly.
Beer only and COSTCO hot dogs. Nice mix of eccentric locals and visitors.

One couple we passed on the back road into Crown King attempted it in a new Land Cruiser. They were pretty jammed up when we arrived.

A Jeep Club had arrived ahead of us & busted them loose, turned them around mid way so they could make it back to the 17. Tore up their new $100.000+ rig pretty bad.
