So I’ve been down in CA for a couple days visiting my mom, and taking care of a few things. So I called Tony and went down there for a quick shop tour.

Now I’m gonna preface this by saying for some reason I didn’t get any pics of the front office.. lol. It’s actually a cool lobby with some couches, boat cleaners in the middle, two nice looking office girls and surrounded by glass offices where Tony, Jeff, Paul etc work.

I blame Tony for the lack of pics because as soon as I got there he grabbed me and we went out back to where the magic happens..

I love the colors on Hoekstra’s new 37. If you look at the ceiling you can see recessed drop downs for air lights vacuum.. This place was built to rig boats. Over the years the boats got bigger so now they spin the boats around backwards when they work on the transom
3E6BF6C4-A448-45C9-B609-AD7164C1E29F.jpeg

As DCB started branching out to mod west and eastern markets they started incorporating drains in all their hatches. It was never really a problem for the west coast scene. It’s a small detail but says a lot about the direction things are going for the company.
1485EE10-949D-48C3-A134-D5222205F0AE.jpeg

Finished out everywhere.. that’s one of the things DCB does that a lot of the performance cat mfg’s don’t. It adds a little weight, but it’s like a Mercedes.. when you pull the covers back there’s no disappointments.

The way the seats go together on the new 37’s is different than anything I’ve ever seen. There’s the back which acts like a clam shell, then they upholster the front and it sits inside the back. Both pieces are carbon and crazy light / strong.

You can see them together in this pic.

How about a M44 with 1550’s - Open Bow! 🤪. I don’t expect the owner will ever run hard with people in the front.. but he can haul is friends to the party!

Something cool that they do is lay tape in the lines.. When they spray there is little grooves left behind, so when they add the next color it fills the valleys and it ends up being flush with the color before. This prevents the little “step” that is common with external gel work.

you can see the raw carbon peeking through in the design of the boat. It’s crazy cool in person. It’s not new and others have done the carbonara n into designs, but I still think it’s cool everytime I see it.

So a common theme you are going to see in all of the shop tours I put up in the next couple days is everyone is buying products for stock. Supply is so unreliable now that they purchase batteries in bulk to make sure they are on hand.. It used to be you’d order batteries as you need them.
1AC8B15F-8461-4842-9C1F-77031E940EE2.jpeg

Each of these are rolling carts.. They fill the carts up with what is needed to rig a boat.. and each cart goes to its own build when all the parts arrive and the boats go into production. You can see the boat owners last name in painters tape on each cart.

Back when I was with a Ducati dealer we did something similar on carbon tanks and outlined the Ducati badge. It was so subtle and most would miss it but the enthusiasts loved it....details....

It's been years since I was at the DCB shop. You being a real estate mogul -- What's the approximate total square footage of the building? It's got to be bigger than I remember -- only a couple of 37-footers back then would fill that place up.

I'm impressed that DCB is so well managed that they are able to take on additional service work. But then again, I'm sure being outside of the Havasu labor market helps a lot.
I think the labor market anywhere is tough right now I’m having issues finding employees and I am paying more than I’ve ever paid before.

Has some sort of sea deck or flooring but it looked different to me.

The rear guard is slightly angled up to give better clearance when backing up driveways etc

Out on the edge of the property they have a semi permanent structure that they keep boats in while they are working on them. As you can see they work on ALL KINDS OF BOATS!

There’s a cheetah fast cat in there, a couple smaller outboards etc.

37 out of the mold, tanks installed and getting ready to mate with the top.
I’d let Tony explain the tabbing process and how the boat goes together because I am sure I’d screw it up.. it’s absolutely incredible though and there is no corners cut on any part of the process.

Every single part that goes into these boats is infused.. it’s the lightest and strongest way of making parts. I have covered the process compared to vacuum bagging and others a few times so I’m not going to type it all out again. Basically the resin is drawn through the parts instead of being pushed into it.

Its funny how if a boat is back at the manufacturers shop it needs to be broken... Most of our customers trust us and only us for service and maintenance. Being an outboard boat, They put a lot of hours on and it is here for service and no it is not broken. So your assumption is wrong. The 35 is here and the 1350's after 280 hours are going back for a Mercury refresh. Any further comments or questions please let me know and I will be happy to give you the CORRECT answer.

Every boat that comes out of DCB is even more insane and sanitary then the last. It is mind boggling how clean and perfect everything is. I don't think there is another manufacturer that is as at this level.

Just amazing Tony, great job to you and your crew.

Thank you, our shop is small but we do build nice stuff and keep the quality higher than the quantity for sure!

@Tony DCB Boats can you share any history on the mold fixtures like those from the pics of the 37?

Is there a standard way they’re built or kinda a one-off design based on the metal fabricator at the time?

Damn 280 hard hours. There is nothing better than having the manufacturer service your boat. They know it better than anyone. Does magoo still have the record hours on his 1350s in his 35?

So as I said earlier with covid and supply chains being unreliable DCB had a bunch of gas tanks built in advance for upcoming 37 builds.

As you walk around DCB you will see these large glossy pictures everywhere..

When the boats are delivered they actually produce them and give them to the customers for their garage. These are some of them in cardboard getting ready to go out.

Now we enter Jeff’s office.. He is here marking up some new gel drawings to make it clear to the gel guys which lines go where etc.. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, until a line goes the wrong way.. then it’s a big deal. Lol.

Pretty cool production calendar. You can see they print each boat out and it goes on the wall..

Aaaannnndd they got builds running off the calendar and down the wall.

So I asked what these Gelcoated pieces of glass were all about.. when discussing colors with a client they will actually spray up the various colors, then cut the board in half and ship one of them to the client.. That way the client can see it in person and both sides are looking at the same thing.
How much pearl do you want in the black? Here’s five different levels

what pin lines do you want next to the blue? Or how do you want the colors to mate?
