Do you know if it's a there and back run?
Reads like it's just a one way trip.

interesting they call it a "sierra run".......Mammoth sites at the eastern edge of the sierras......and the ride goes EAST from there...out of the Sierra's......if yo have never been to Hawthorne...there isnt much there, other then a massive army munitions depot. you may get into some elevated mountainous terrain as you pass through the White mountains (Boundary Peak) depending on the route taken.

did it a couple years ago and will probably do it this year. its a fun ride nothing hard to do just good trail ride.
nothing is in hawthorne except a casino and bar. but beer is cold and tastes great after the long days ride.
its probably better to stay the night sunday because you don't get to mammoth till later in the day on sunday.

I went twice before. Everyone had a great time. After a couple of times, you'll want to do something more challenging.
On a funny note, we got lost and we had to drive 63 miles on the highway to get back to Hawthorne. Pay attention to what side of the trail the orange ribbons are on, it matters!

Must be the "El Capitan"? Parents used to go there 40-50 years ago.
Does the ride go thru Bodie? Rode from lee vining to Bodie and all around Mono lake back in the late 70's before I had a license(lot less enforcement back then)

I've done it 2 years in a row now. Its fun you wont be disappointed, some pretty country you go through. Last year a freak cold front came through and we got snow in bowdie, It was cold. Dress for warm and cold, its dusty, fun, and the people that put it on do a good job. Saturday is a fun ride. You'll put some miles up form sure. You'll cross over a cool stream great stop for photos. Bring what you need for food and drink. There's a gas station across the street back side of the Hotel you stay at in Hawthorne. They have great chocolate chip homemade cookies. The Casino is a old school smoke filled room, nothing special in the slightest. The smoke was so bad I got the hell out of there. There's a decent bar across the street backside of the casino.

The main guy, Dick Allen, on Saturday my group hung back and ducked off the trail for some beers and cocktails. He follows up so no one is left behind and he's not to fond of drinking until your back for the day FYI.

Got prior commitments this year or It would of been 3 years in a row.

There's a group of Israelis that have been doing this ride for a while now. Super cool and always have nice rides. I pulled over with them last year and they had the best coffee and deserts on a ride I ever tasted. Have fun. Like mentioned above stay Sunday night.

Me and my son just did the Mystery 250 last month. It goes from Wellington, NV to Hawthorne, NV and back the next day. It’s about 250 miles over the two days which is pretty brutal in the summer heat. There are some easy parts, but there was quite a bit of single track which was extremely rocky and technical. We would definitely do it again.

Is the Sierra Safari mostly fire roads? I presume dirtbikes take the same trails as the side-by-side‘s? From the videos and pictures I could find it seems more like a long cruise as opposed to a technical ride.

Negative, there's some rock trails that shook the teeth out of me and I have suspension mods. Some of the bikes were struggling. Theres one section you hit talcum powder, you fall into the grove your fucking white. Groomed roads, through the trees, some tight technical stuff, and also some real easy stuff. Some long stretches were you can run flat out. You'll hit one section along the power lines, whoops, a bit of rock but you can roll. Your even shortly on paved roads.

On the way home Sunday you take a different way. Easier faster and at one point its just over 9k in elevation. You go through some beautiful valleys. You get in one spot about 7 miles from the end whoops and technical, Razor whopping on the can am's. :)

The gas truck and the lunch spot the first day is in the middle of know where. Trip me out the gas truck went all the way out there. Saturday you go to a really nice country town cant remember the name. They have a place there good food and drinks. easy to find. Buy some shirts they have some cool ones if your into it. Saturday was my favorite day. The hotel in Hawthorne is a dump but I'm a hotel snob :)

Dick sometimes changes things up for the trails but the last 2 years were the same. This run used to be just for bikes now the SXS have taken over. I think he's kinda catering to the SXS now, brings in the money.

One more thing, when you get into Hawthorne Friday go gas up don't wait till early am. Same on the return Saturday.

Have fun most all the people are very friendly.

Ya'll now this but just in case, if possible bring a spare tire and a belt. Thats what we took out in our group. They have great support if you break down. Last year one guy rolled it up hard. Fucked his SXS up good around a corner might of ran out of talent. :)

If you can, spend the night at the hotel in Mammoth when you get off the trail. The first trip we drove home filthy and exhausted, it was miserable. The second time we went, we stayed the night and drove home the next morning. It was a great time getting off the trail, taking a shower and meeting everyone in the bar.

I was there, sorry I didn't get to meet you in person. My wife and I were in the yellow YXZ - it had an RDP sticker on the hood. Were you in one of the Can Am's?

And Parker Magic - were you the guy in the tricked out Can Am? I remember you mentioning that you lived in Parker ....

I actually had to cancel the week of the ride. My wife's grandfather passed away and we had the funeral on Friday. I'm so bummed I had to miss. I saw some of the pics and it looked awesome. Going next year for sure!

My uncle went and he had a CanAm with a green cage and he was with a red RZR-S. His name was Mike.
