I sold my 2 year old 5th wheel a couple weeks ago for more than i paid for it brand new, alot more. Took advantage of the sellers market right now, and will wait till everyone who is buying these up gets tired of storing them or the covid bullshit goes away.

Boating season is over for the drive by boater. Demand and prices will drop a bit like they always do in fall/winter.

End of summer 2023.
Right before any chance of the USA becoming a socialist country.:D
In all reality this might be accurate to an extent

Maybe not... maybe its just me wanting to pick a 18 Speedster with 450s. ;)

Once they realize they will have a boat payment and storage rental for months on something they won't be using.

Or when their PPP loan gets audited.
This. Once the boat is parked in the driveway and stops moving on the weekends, the shock of A) Finding a open storage place, and B) how much storage is, I think we will start seeing them.

This year many low wage jobs were eliminated but most high earning professional jobs were not effected. It takes a few quarters of really bad earnings due to recession for companies to form plans to cut, then probably another quarter for people to run low on savings after getting laid off. End of 2021 stuff goes on sale.

So everyone bought new boats with PPP funds, and stores their brand new $200k boat in their driveway and can’t afford storage? :)

Exactly. It will be another year before we know if we are recovering or falling further.

People are lazy, and most don't think past the purchase of the boat. Sorry, I should have excluded you and your 200k boat. My apologies.

friend of mine was telling me earlier this summer rvs are selling because theres nothing else to do for vacations. Some are use to airline and resorts but those are out right now but you can get an rv and do something they havent done.

I think once thigs can get back to normal they will be sold quickly and reasons you say also add registration and maintenance too.

Everyone that buys a boat knows they have to store it somewhere. How many new boats do you see in long term storage in people's driveways? Like none.

If they get sick of paying so much for something they barely use, that is another subject and yes that often happens.

These were not people making $20/hour buying new boats this year. It was people that already had money. Not having a kid or 2 in sports frees up enough money per month to own and store a boat.

I would think cash out re-fi also played a big role.......

Probably, but that isn't PPP.

People had actual money and disposable income this country before March, and not every person that bought something since March is a business owner that got PPP.

Soon hang tight it’s coming your starting to see price dropping on boats and homes in havasu

How many times have I heard that the last 8 years, lol. 🤪

In all seriousness everything we know about the economy is predicated on what happens November 3rd. Trump win = Economic Recovery in 2021 then Status Quo the next 3+ years. (Ie: Boat prices continue to rise as well as personal income and corporate profits)
Biden win = Economic Depression and Double Digit Inflation begins as Big and Small Businesses stop investing as Trump Tax Cuts rescinded, and larger corporate and personal tax rates increased to pay for Green New Deal and other Liberal Pipe Dreams. (Ie: Boat prices drop drastically but nobody can buy one as unemployment and petroleum prices skyrocket)

No, not everyone. I'm sure we would both be surprised at how many people DO NOT have storage figured out for their boat at the time of purchase. The driveway is good enough for the time being, and they will put more thought into it later. When later comes, it's a shot in the arm.

This might amaze you, but a lot of people don't have everything figured out as perfectly as some do. My brother in law is a PRIME EXAMPLE of this.

Carry on

I'm watching the housing market close. I haven't seen much of a drop but I'm hoping to. I'm not hoping for a crash just a correction.

Prices have already begun to drop. The only fast non price dropped sales (I've seen anyway) are the pleasure craft bayliner bow riders both with & without rollbars.

i kinda disagree, but it’s kinda because it’s not the 200k guys. The 35-80k guys are already scrambling it’s funny I’ve seen quite a few posts on other social media outlets already. These people were ok with the boat uncovered or covered but outdoors all summer when they were out every weekend but are not able to find storage now.

Few posts about wth i can’t even use the boat these months and still have to pay insurance ... posts.

And a few wth storage ishow much???

I personally would completely freak if i had to pay storage on a boat, but am also limited to my boat size do to my garage. I see people that are 1000+ a month for their Boat payment, insurance, & storage and that’s on a 40-60k boat that’s another house payment or child support payment each month.

When the bubble breaks. You just have to figure out when that is.

Any of the below:

Biden gets elected
Government handouts stop, real economic effects of covid are unveiled
Governments and municipalities face the grim reality of their debt

Too many things are waaaaaaaay out over their skis right now, somethings going to give at some point and maybe that isn’t for a few years if Trump gets re-elected

I don’t think you will see the PPP boats come up as people who did that won’t be selling them anytime soon. As far as unemployment boats. That won’t happen! They didn’t buy boats

The people who bought boats had the money and are in the mid to upper middle class. Poor people don’t buy boats.

This influx of boats hitting the market will not exist

Keep dreaming

Those aren't the people buying boats with "PPP" funds, which was my original point. Anyone that can afford a new a truck can likely afford a $30K-$80K boat. A used $30K-$80K boat most will store on the side of their house if they could. People are not putting new dual engine toons, or new wake boats in their driveway or backyard.

I feel like the influx will be runabouts, pontoons, wakeboats not custom boats. Im sure there will be more inventory but not massive amounts. RV's on the other hand will be abundant.

Agreed. People that ran out and bought boats bought boats in inventory, not custom ordered ones that take months to get delivered.

But what about their $600/week??? They certainly spent that on a boat, truck, and a new house.

I disagree. The people buying 200k boat and motor homes have money. Have jobs.
they are now spending different.
no vacation on planes. No eating out 6 times a week on and on

another dooms day thread. Will boat and rv possibly drop 10%? Great, that’s 20000 off a boat most can’t buy anyways.

Sanity! Very few are going to get back on a plane for vacations in 2021.

It’s fake economy printing cash and lowering interest rates does nothing for middle income people maybe you have major cash sitting but most of it is in equity of home or a retirement package which will be taxed personally I have not said recession but I have said it’s a fake economy

Its not fake as long as yours is the best. As long as the US has the strongest economy, we will be in OK shape. If the economy is "fake" it has been fake for 20+ years. With .gov intervention, things are going to crash harder and rebound more aggressively. We just came out of the biggest and longest economic boom ever.

I agree it is harder to be in the middle class than ever, but you also have realize that you can't buy a truck that costs more than you make in a year either. There are places with lower costs of living than So Cal. At some point you have to get in where you fit in, or fake it till you make it.
