The VAT [ value added tax ] is 20% in England. Our version the GST is 12 % in Canada. These imbeciles hoping to cash in on the ignorance of the public.. What they propose is, it's not socialism, it's communism. I know, I endured that in the first part of my life. Medicare was free, albeit my salary was cut by 75 % of what it should have been. Our GST in Australia is 10% (mind you for all imports coming into Australia under $1K No GST will apply).

Medibank is free to seniors, underaged and unemployed, but if you're a working citizen a 5% tax will apply. BUT, if you take up a Private health plan the 5% tax is not applicable.

Generally private plans are much better and provide much quicker service especially when making appointments with specialists.

The best plan is for people in the service or have served, they receive what is called a "Gold Card".

This card enables them and their spouses the best of everything at no charge plus the option at their request for a "Limo" (no not a Taxi) to take them for their Doctors appointments.

The "Limo" driver will wait for them and return them to their home, all at no charge.

In theory we do but in application very high income earners do not pay a higher rate than lower income earners... (See Carried Interest) The type of income the top earners have takes the progressiveness out of the tax code.
