Got gunite today. It might seem like it’s been a while but my guniter has builders waiting almost a month after pre-gunite inspection to get Gunite.😱 I guess times are really good. Maybe I should build pools again...oh hell no.😂

Looks good. So regarding grout color...all water deposits are white, so be careful of dark grout and dark tile. It will show up more. Just like people who use dark grout in showers. All soap scum is white. Our pool tile is really shiny and slick. Brown Earth tone. It’s been really good. Have you decided on the plaster yet?

Live and learn. I should have known better than to hire a contractor I haven’t worked with before. A one month project is going to turn into three. So here we are waiting for the decks.

Dam!!! I guess I got lucky working with my pool contractor I never worked with Before. I started my Backyard gut and Pool remodel adding a jacuzzi 3 days before you. Not as big as your pool. Plaster and Equipment next week. My guy and his crew have definitely been on point!

Question for you @GRADS; That is a very odd shaped pool now. How do you plan on cleaning the bottom? May sound silly, but I have a huge problem with a plain jane kidney bean shaped pool finding a good sweeper. I can only imagine with all those angles it's going to be tough without having to manually vacuum the pool weekly.

I've always had a Hayward Navigator in it and it seemed to work well. Although I do brush the entire pool once a week or so. That's how my plaster looked so good after 20 years.

Sounds like construction! Lol
Looking good so far
No shit! I've told my wife no less than 10 times I was glad I quit the pool biz. I can't even imagine being a contractor right now with the shortage on...everything.

Lesson learned. Next time I will just rip out a 40 year old pool and start over....it would have been cheaper.
Lol . Not a chance . Next time i will buy a house with a pool already done !

Haven't updated this thread in a while. So I mixed up a custom pebble mixture...Like I literally picked how many bags of rock of each color to mix in and went with a blue plaster. When I told the owner of the plaster company what I picked his response was "interesting".... I said interesting as in good or bad and he said "we'll see". Didn't sleep the night before and when they started to plaster I thought for sure I had made a huge mistake....

Yes they are.
Can’t see it.
Fixed it I think.

So while it has water we are a long way from being finished. We are waiting for the concrete to cure before we seal it, patio cover should go in next week, still need to finish the gunite retaining wall...and then there's landscaping. 😩 But at least we can swim.👍

So here we are today. The pool has had water in it for awhile and I am trying to put the final touches on it. Still need to stain/seal the deck, face the gunite wall with something and then landscape. As I said in my very first post this is something I wanted to do for my wife in case something happened to me. I also did it to try and take my mind off my health.
At this point the rest of it is going to have to wait. The doctors at Stanford have said it is time to act. My stent in my carotid artery has all but closed. Next week they are going to cut open my neck and attempt to remove the stent and artery and replace it with an artificial one. The surgery is high in risks and not many doctors will attempt it, but I've got to have faith that I have one of the best vascular surgeons in the country.
I figure my wife can get the pool across the finish line at this point if god forbid something happens to me.

Here's a few pics

Bad ass color. Super nice. You should think about staining your fence. The wife and daughter pressure washed our ugly weathered fence and it made it almost white then rented a sprayer at Home Depot and stained it while I was out of town on a golf trip. Surprised me with it. I love it. Here is a video she showed me of my daughter. It was done like 5 years ago and still looks great

Actually that's a great idea that quite frankly hadn't crossed my mind. Our fence is really ugly and I was trying to figure out how to conceal it with plants but I really like how yours looks. 👍

What stain did they use?
