Just purchased a 2011 290-S with a 8.2 Mag HO and a bravo 3. Outdrive says 1.50.1 ratio and is spinning Signature 4x4 28p.

Took it out yesterday and ran 25mph at 3200-3500rpm and had to wing it to 5000 rpm to run 45mph.

I'm thinking some one threw in some new gears.

I know it's a big heavy boat and I am coming from a 28' Deck with a 525. Big doesn't seem right at all.

Also Bravo 3 is usually 1.81 or higher. 2.0, 2.2, 2.43

I highly doubt if it's a bravo 3 you'd have 1.50 ratio especially with that big of a boat and that motor. You'd never find any props for it.

Yes bravo 3 with 28p four blades. Talked with Chad Hill from Signature and he thought 28 was a bit much. He suggested 26p. But also said the info I was giving him sounded off.

That tag isn't right. You'd have to open it up to figure out the correct gear set. You're able to turn 5k with those props? Hit the rev limiter?

28p is probably too much, but info does sound off. When was the last service?

Plugged jellyed up fuel filters could be the issue.

What do you mean it isn't right?

Ya turned 5k and had more in it but didn't want to wing it. But was only doing 40-45mph.

Mercury makes up to 30p set. What does Hallett say that boat will run top speed? 50?

Ya I agree to much prop.

He said recently but don't know if they changed fuel filters

Just got off the phone with hallett they said it sounds off as well. They asked if the rpm gauge was off. Even if it is I can tell that motor was turning pretty fast.

He said it has a rev limiter set just above 5k. I didn't hit the limiter so that's why he thought the gauge was off.

5150 is the limiter. The Delco plugs they run stock in these suck. The resistors go bad and cause the common problem of tach reading incorrectly. Tr55ix NGK's. Much better plug than the factory platinums.

If he's hitting 5k he's only 150 off. I wouldn't be in a hurry to change props.

I don't see a single 29 v bottom with a 496 doing 65. Especially with a Bravo 3. I could be wrong but I've been in a lot of boats and driven a lot of boats. 65 is like saying a jet boat runs 100 on EBay to me.

He said 5k with plenty left to go. I bet the tach is reading off. I had the same issue with mine. reading 1k higher. Found two plugs with bad resistors. All good now.

That bottom does work. Driven right depending on load it should run 65 no problem.

A 27 will run 65 with a 496 HO.

I agree to not changing props yet either. Need to verify any other issues first.

What would you think the cruising speed and max speed of a boat this size and engine combo would run?

Like Paul said the gear ratio is 1.81 or 2.00.

Paul 1.81 is the most common right?

Hallett said it's most likely 2.00. Maybe the tack if off, it sounded like it was spinning pretty fast.

With a 2.00 B3 and 28 4 blades you should be right at 4800-5k.

Ya that's what I was thinking.

Told the guy he needs to figure it out. Guess he's buddies with Thane and John at Nordic. Told him to have them confirm what I am experiencing.
And then fix it!

Love the boat it is super clean and gorgeous. When we did get it up to a descent speed and hit some pretty rough water it ate it up.

Right on! I'm sure they will get it handled.

The bravo 3 should be very efficient at cruising speed. I think they run out of ability around 60 even with decent hp.

I just want to do 50mph and cruise at a decent rpm. Haha
