I measured mine today mine is 13 inches from the trailing edge to the transom and I’m ok with that I don’t need this boat to go fast I just want it to crash through surf waves and not destroy my boat. If I want to go fast I will in my Cole.

So is the thought that the further forward the prop is that it makes it easier to carry the bow?

Ironically I didn't ask. I would think so though. The bow is long and heavy with the cuddy cabin and you can't trim them with a V drive.

Are the pillow blocks different sizes to take into account the slight curve of the transom?

That boat is looking sweet AF! A couple questions, I rarely see a 24 with the cav plates but I see a lot of smaller boats wth them. My 24 gets on plane in a couple seconds and never seems to have an attitude problem. What will the plates do for the boat in general? Also do the plates mean no swim step?
I’m putting them on more for looks then anything can’t have a Vdrive without cavitation plates.

I totally agree with namba860! It's a looks thing for me.

My previous 24xs had Bennett Trim Tabs and being able to control the attitude was nice in chop. The plates probably aren't absolutely necessary for these big ol' boats but they look cool. ;)

Aloha

Thinking about selling it. My shop has slowed way down after the holiday and my Wife still isn’t back to work. Really not happy about it but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Project is looking great, hope things pick up for you brother! What intake did you go with, I am thinking of dumping the tunnel ram on my 20 and going with a singe plane high rise.

Let me know if you put it up for sale. I currently have a Spectra 18 but have outgrown it. I'm looking for something bigger.

I know how it feels to want to get it done, I’ve been working on my Spectra 20 since 2013. Life happens. But, if you have to throw a cover over it for a little while, so be it. I would keep it. Everything goes in cycles. Work will pick up again for sure. Keep the faith! @namba860

I’m actually not at the shop today. My Mom is having surgery today.
OK. I hope that goes well. Text me when you do get to the shop in the next day or so.

I’m basically down to finishing the cavitation plates, wiring the dash and engine, installing the thermostat housing and plumb. Then I will send it to the glass shop to have the forward bulkhead going into the cabin repaired and some extra old holes filled in and gelled on the transom then off to the upholstery shop.

looking great! I have to say I am very partial toward the Mag! I run them in both boats. Can I ask what you are doing for a tac? I cant run a tac drive off the gear box like in my flat, I have a diverter box that is supposed the change the signal but it doesn't work for shit, it did come from Hunt and that could be my issue.

I haven’t figured the tach out yet. It’s a Vertex Mag and It doesn’t have a tach drive and the Vdrive doesn’t either.

Make your own pickup off the crank like crank trigger/either end/off drive
shaft .......https://www.hotrodhotline.com/md/html/magnetic_pickup.php
And a gm hei module would create a ground pulse that the tach would understand.
All of this is theory but in my head it works and I have used inductive tach signal generators for a mag and they suck!

Kind of my thoughts, I'd save the mag for a different blower engine project and run a simple HEI setup.

HEI's are ugly :) mags are so simple and trouble free for the most part. I just swapped out the one on my flat for a fresh charged unit, had not touched it since 95', and ever since I have thrown anything related to Hunt Mags in the trash, the vertex in my Spectra it's be spot on.

Just to be clear this was an idea for a tac signal only not removing mag.
