I sold the Yamaha VX Cruiser and picked up the 21 Kawasaki Ultra 310 for my son just in time for the spring break. We arrived at the Cattail Cove campground on Wednesday early morning but it was so windy so we decided to unhook the jet ski trailer and left it at the campsite and enjoy Wednesday in LHC town.
We bought food in town and sat inside the truck eating and watching the whitecap on river at Vermillion Lighthouse.
We drove back to the campsite setting up the tent and spent time talking at the born fire, after that we took the hot shower and went to bed get ready to the next day adventure.
Thursday morning the wind is very calm and we are getting exiting for the long day on the river. After warmed up home made spaghetti (Nancy made it) we packed drink and some snack in the soft cooler and head down to the launch ramp.
The water temp still cold 66°F shows on the jet ski dah display, first stop at the channel for about 30 minutes after that we headed to the sandbar, only few boats here, we hung out for about 10 minutes and continues to the upper river. We passed the gorge and then under I40 bridge. The fuel tanks is less that half when we passing Topock 66 and I am thinking there is another gas station upper river in Needles so we keep heading the upper river. When passing Needles Marina Resort the fuel warning light cam on but I am looking for gas on the AZ side so I am heading for Willow Valley Marina after few miles passed Hwy 95 and I am still couldn't see the marina so I called but the marina phone number does not work so we decided heading back to Needles Marina Resort. I was so happy that we can see the pump from the distance and the ski still running, when getting closer to the pump I clearly see the sign "We are closed, see you next summer", WTF, staying there for few minutes to see if I can meet and talk to any local people hopefully we can hear some good news about the gas station nearby... fortunately we saw a nice couple are launching a nice boat, I told my son go there and ask for the gas station, the gentlemen told us that there is no gas station upper river is available so he told us take it easy down river to Pirate Cove if we run out of gas pull over on the side he will stop by and help, so at least we have assist on the way so we cruising 25 -30 MPH down to Pirate Cove, luckily we made it the to pump at Pirate Cove.
Docking the ski at the pump and looked at the Premium 91 price is $8.29 per gallon, anyhow we pump regardless the price, lazy to walk up paying cash in person I used two credit card one for each ski so we pumped 12 gallons each ski. We are happy to head back to the campsite, when just about passing the Copper Canyon the fuel warning light came on again and this time we were able to make to the Cattail Cove launch ramp. The total round trip we rode little over 100 miles for the first time on the ski.
Friday morning I took my son to Peggy's Sunrise Cafe for breakfast, after that we came to RDP office trying to get some stickers and hats, we found down there is a boat show happening so we when to RDP booth shuck hand to Dave, got some stickers and hats. Hung out at the show checking some new hardware for about little over an hour we drove back to Cattail and put the ski to the water.
On Saturday we hung out on the south side at Hi Isle BLM campsite to relax, Saturday night the wind picks up again so we cleaned up the campsite and headed to LHC, I took my son to Black Bear Diner for the dinner and started to drive home. We arrived home around 2am Sunday am.
